Chironomidae in newly created nature reserves In a newly created nature reserve near Eindhoven many interesting species of Chironomidae were found. Several new species to the Dutch fauna were identified and one species (of the genus Neozavrelia) proved to be new to science. The fauna of these young habitats is poorly known, but proves to be very interesting.

Systematiek De indeling van de Orthocladiinae levert zo mogelijk nog meer problemen op dan die van de andere subfamilies van de Chironomidae. Momenteel is het algemeen gebruikelijk de groep in vier subfamilies te splitsen: Diamesinae, Prodiamesinae, Orthocladiinae en Telmatogetoninae (zie bijv. Saether, 1979a; Ferrarese & Rossaro, 1981; Cranston, 1982). In oudere literatuur worden deze subfamilies vaak niet onderscheiden of wordt een andere indeling gemaakt (Brundin, 1956; Pankratova, 1970; Fittkau & Reiss, 1978). Chironomid larvae occur in nearly all kinds of fresh and brackish waters as well as in semiterrestrial environments. The authors treat the autecology and the distribution of more than 200 taxa in the Netherlands. Except for the tribe Tanytarsini (Chironominae) all the subfamilies occurring in the Netherlands are included. The autecology of the larvae is given in ecological spectra including values of geographic distribution, water type, habitat, oxygen, pH/trophic level and chlorid concentration. In het onderstaande worden enkele aanvullingen gegeven op de determinatietabellen voor larven van Nederlandse Chironomidae (Moller Pillot, 1984a; 1984b). Tanypodinae Tanypus. Imagines van T. kraatzi en T. punctipennis zijn tot op heden door iedereen onjuist gedetermineerd. Fittkau zal het enige goede verschilkenmerk (vleugeladering) binnenkort publiceren. De larvale determinatiekenmerken, zoals in Nederland gebruikt, zijn korrekt. Als T. punctipennis gedetermineerde imagines kunnen ten dele tot T. kraatzi behoren. The larvae of the genus Einfeldia Kieffer, 1924: nomenclature and key to the species (Diptera: Chironomidae). A review is given of the identities of groups and taxa of Einfeldia in the larval stage as given in the literature. Three species remain on the Dutch list: E. carbonaria (Meigen), E. dissidens (Walker) and E. pagana (Meigen). A key is presented to identify these species. Corrections are given to update a previously given key (Moller Pillot, 1984).

This first part of 'The larvae of the Dutch Chironomidae' deals with the larvae of Tanypodinae and Chironomini. In chapter I an introduction is given to sampling and handling of chironomid larvae. In chapter II their general morphology and development are described, followed by a key to the subfamilies (p. 25). The key for larvae of Tanypodinae (p. 34) in many cases leads to species level . In augustus 2011 werd een larve van een dansmug gevonden in een emmer onder een dakgoot in Appingedam. Na uitkweken bleek het te gaan om Metriocnemus carmencitabertarum, een nieuwe soort voor Nederland. In het buitenland komt deze soort voor in met water gevulde natuurlijke kommen in rotsen en soortgelijke kunstmatige habitats als drinkbakken. Aan het eind van 2011 werden vrouwtjes dansmuggen gezien die hun eieren afzetten in dezelfde emmer. Dit gaf de unieke mogelijkheid om informatie over de biologie van deze mug te verzamelen.
