This volume contains results collected on the deep-sea benthic population of the Bay of Biscay during the BIOGAS cruises that took place over two successive periods, 1972-1974 and 1977-1981. Characteristics on the hydrology, morphology, currents and sediments-all essential for an ecological study of communities-are presented in the first part of this volume, which is devoted to the environmental aspect of the communities, including information on pelagic production and on the flux of organic particulate matter. In the second part of this volume, three categories of benthic fauna, meiofauna, macrofauna and megafauna, are quantified in terms of abundance and biomass.... |
