| The purpose of this study is to survey the porcellanid crab fauna inhabiting Phragmatopoma lapidosa sand reefs at Paranapuã Beach, São Vicente (SP), Brazil, and to assess species diversity, density and spatial distribution at this locality. Monthly samples were carried out from September/94 to August/95 in three established sampling sites along the rocky shore. Five species of Porcellanidae were recorded: Pachycheles laevidactylus, P. monilifer, Petrolisthes armatus, Pisidia brasiliensis and Megalobrachium roseum comprising 9,084 specimens. | This study aimed to analyze the reproductive cycle of the crab Hepatus pudibundus (Herbst, 1785). The crabs were collected in Ubatuba, SP (23°26'S and 45°02'W) monthly from the July, 1992 to June, 1993. Samplings were performed with an "otter trawl". In the laboratory the crabs were numbered, sexed and measured for their maximum carapace width. The gonad developmental stage and the moult stage were also macroscopically registered. In all sampled months ovigerous females and crabs in both sexes with developed gonad were observed. Moult activity in all size classes was verified. | O número de ovos e a taxa na qual eles são produzidos podem fornecer uma indicação do potencial reprodutivo de uma espécie. O objetivo deste estudo foi levantar dados básicos sobre a biologia geral de E. oplophoroides e, em particular, sua fecundidade na região de Ubatuba, SP. Os espécimes foram coletados em arrastos camaroneiros na Enseada de Ubatuba, SP (23ºS/45ºN), no período de junho/1995 a maio/1996. O número de ovos relacionados a uma dimensão corpórea (comprimento cefalotorácico) foi ajustado a uma regressão linear. A fecundidade média obtida foi de 2.742 ± 1.561, variando de 434 a 5.215 ovos por fêmea por desova e o volume médio dos ovos foi de 0,015 ± 0,002 mm³.
