Two different tectono-stratigraphic domains are recognised in the Cantabrian Mountains, Asturian-Leonese (Cantabrian Zone) and Palentian (Palentian Zone). The area under investigation belongs to the southern part of the Palentian Domain and attention is focused on the Upper Viséan to lowermost Bashkirian limestones at the village of La Lastra in northern Palencia. A new geological map of the Palentian Zone is accompanied by a more detailed map centred on La Lastra. The Barcaliente Limestone Formation (Serpukhovian to lowermost Bashkirian) occurs in the overturned limb of a recumbent anticline which constitutes the head of a south-verging major thrust unit, the Carrionas Thrust Sheet (Palentian Zone). It shows here a shallowing trend in the Serpukhovian.... |

The present study reports upon the conodont faunas of the uppermost lower Viséan (Carrión unit) through the lower Serpukhovian (Peña unit) deep water Triollo section, Cantabrian Mountains, Palencia, Spain. The condensed succession of grey, laminate, nodular and cherty limestones with marl intercalations contains abundant and diverse conodont faunas. Three new species of Vogelgnathus, V. cantabricus, V. palentinus and V. triolloensis, as well as one new species and one new subspecies of Gnathodus, Gn. boogaardi and Gnathodus girtyi pyrenaeus Nemyrovska & Perret subsp. nov., are described. All stratigraphically important taxa for the studied interval are described. Four conodont zones are distinguished, three in the Viséan, Gnathodus praebilineatus, Gn.... |

The present study reports upon the conodont fauna of the Upper Serpukhovian through Lower Moscovian of the Donets Basin, Ukraine. Three new species are described: Declinognathodus? pseudolateralis, Idiognathodus praedelicatus and Idiognathoides postsulcatus. The relatively continuous, rhythmic succession of shales, siltstones and sandstones, with limestone interlayers and coal seams contains a wide variety of fossils: foraminifers, conodonts, brachiopods, ostracods, corals, gastropods, ammonoids, crinoids, bivalves, bryozoans, plant remains etc. It is therefore the key or standard section for interregional and intercontinental correlations. Additionally, the Bashkirian Stage is significant in Late Carboniferous conodont evolution as during this interval... |
