Neumann, Mikael; Horst, Egon Henrique; Dochwat, André; Leão, Guilherme Fernando Mattos; Carneiro, Murilo klosovski; Mello, Richard Paglia de.
The objective was to evaluate the productivity, morphological and chemical composition, in addition to the economic viability of the corn crop (Zea mays L.) for the production of silage under different levels of nitrogen and potassium fertilization in coverage. Treatments consisted of four coverage levels: T1 (217 kg ha-1 N + 137 kg ha-1 K2O); T2 (295 kg ha-1 N + 163 kg ha-1 K2O); T3 (374 kg ha-1 N + 190 kg ha-1 K2O); and T4 (452 kg ha-1 N + 216 kg ha-1 of K2O). It was found that the fertilization level had no effect (P> 0.05) in the parameters related to plant height, height of the first insertion spike and grain production, however, higher (P <0.05) dry biomass production was obtained with 374 kg ha-1 N + 190 kg ha-1 coverage K2O (32,346 kg...

Calves intended for meat production is an interesting alternative income. The objective was to evaluate the effect of providing probiotic Saccharomyces cerevisiae on the performance of Holstein steers in feedlot. The animals received 100% concentrated diet consisting of 80% of whole grain corn and 20% protein core, or without added yeast. The experimental design was completely randomized, with two treatments with eight replications. The use of probiotic did not significantly alter the feed conversion (average of 3.90 kg kg-1), consumption of daily dry matter (average 5.30 kg) and the dry matter intake per body weight (mean 2.32%). However, the daily weight gain of animals fed probiotic was higher, being 1.519 kg against 1.352 kg for the control group. The...

Rossi, Evandrei Santos; Faria, Marcos Ventura; Mendes, Marcelo Cruz; Neumann, Mikael; Gabriel, André; Del Conte, Murilo Viotto.
The aim of this research was to evaluate vitreousness in commercial corn hybrids with flint and dent grains and to study the effect of this characteristic on agronomic behavior, nutritional value, and ruminal degradability of grains harvested in silage maturity. Twelve commercial corn hybrids were evaluated. They were divided in two groups (six with flint grains and six with dent grains). The experiments were conducted in two municipalities represented by Guarapuava and Laranjeiras do Sul, both in Paraná State. The harvest for the grain quality analysis was performed at ¾ of the milk line stage in the grain. The following characteristics were evaluated: grain yield, grain yield in silage maturity, vitreousness, ruminal digestibility of grain, neutral...

Xylanase - complex efficacy in high-energy diet for bulls finished in feedlot Animal Sciences
Neumann, Mikael; Leão, Guilherme Fernando Mattos; Vigne, Gabriela Letícia Dalai; Santos, Leslei Caroline dos; Venancio, Bruno José; Dochwat, André.
Enzymes can be an interesting additive in high energy diets for feedlot cattle. However, literature is inconsistent on this subject. Thus, this study was conducted to evaluate animal performance of feedlot bulls receiving high energy diet, composed of a mixture of 85% whole corn grain and 15% protein-mineral-vitamin nucleus, without or with xylanase included in the diets. Diets consisted of: CON - diet without enzymes (Control) and ENZ - diet with enzymes (5 g animal day-1). Thirty-two bulls were used, with an average age of 11 ± 2 months, average initial weight of 365 ± 5 kg, and finished for 119 days in feedlot. The experimental design was completely randomized, consisting of two treatments and eight replications, where each replication was represented...

Corn grain processing improves chemical composition and fermentative profile of rehydrated silage Animal Sciences
Silva, Marlon Richard Hilário da; Jobim, Clóves Cabreira; Neumann, Mikael; Osmari, Milene Puntel.
This study evaluated the effects of the rehydration and ensiling of corn grain with two geometric mean diameters (GMD) of 0.55 and 1.83 mm obtained by the diameter of the sieved used on the fermentation characteristics and chemical composition of the silage. The experimental design was completely randomized with two treatments and six replications, as follows: rehydrated fine-corn grain silage (RFS) and rehydrated coarse-corn grain silage (RCS). Ground corn was rehydrated with water to achieve moisture levels close to 350 g kg-1. There was no effect on the dry matter recovery, though the recovery rate was high, with values greater than 97% in both silages. The particle size influenced the fiber content, with lower values in the RFS. The acetic and lactic...
