Morphological characterization and germination of seeds of Casearia decandra PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Haliski, Sérgio Luis; Cosmo, Nelson Luiz; Gogosz, Alessandra Mara; Rego, Suelen Santos; Nogueira, Antonio Carlos; Saito Kuniyoshi, Yoshiko.
This study aimed at to characterize morphologically the fruits, seeds and seedling development of Casearia decandra and examine the best substrate and temperature for seed germination. The fruits were collected from 13 mothers in the municipality of Irati, Parana State, Brazil. Tests were conducted to determine the weight of 1,000 seeds, number of seeds per kilogram and the seeds moisture content. To test the influence of different substrate and temperature on germination it was tested four temperatures: 20 ºC, 25 ºC, 30 ºC and 35 ºC on four substrates: sand, paper towels, roll paper and vermiculite. The fruit is spherical, with dry pericarp, thin, with glabrous , smooth, and light yellow surface. The seed presents ellipsoid shape, chartaceous, creamy and...

Floristic composition and distribution of soil seed bank in Subtropical Ombrophilous Alluvial Forest in Araucaria, Parana State, Brazil PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Silva-Weber, Ariadne Josiane Castoldi; Nogueira, Antonio Carlos; Carpanezzi, Antonio Aparecido; Galvão, Franklin; Weber, Saulo Henrique.
In this research it was evaluated the potential of the soil seed bank in a remaining of Subtropical Ombrophilous Alluvial Forest (Araucaria Forest), by quali-quantitative analysis of seed germination. Additionally it was tested the occurrence of seasonal variation of the soil seed bank. The forest remaining located in Araucaria county, Parana State, Brazil, and it is influenced by Barigui river, affluent of Iguaçu river. It was used the completely randomized experimental design with ten replications. The soil seed bank was collected in three seasons at depth (of 10 cm plus litter), using a 0.40 m x 0.40 m sample square. The collected samples were placed in wood boxes in greenhouse, during 8 months. It was observed a season average of 5,732 individuals m-2,...

Slow release fertilization on growth of paricá tree seedlings in nursery PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Rossa, Uberson Boaretto; Angelo, Alessandro Camargo; Nogueira, Antonio Carlos; Bognola, Itamar Antonio; Pomianoski, Danielle Janaina Westphalen; Soares, Philipe Ricardo Casemiro; Barros, Lizy Tank Sampaio.
The use of slow release fertilizer (SRF) can contribute to obtain better seedlings before an industry accustomed to the use of commercial fertilizers. This work aimed to evaluate doses of SRF on the growth of paricá tree seedlings and to compare the cost of conventional fertilizer use in relation to the cost involved in producing with SRF. The experimental design was completely randomized with 6 treatments and 4 replications of 40 plants, with one control and the other treatments with the addition of different doses of SRF per m³ of substrate used for seedlings production . After 81 days of sowing, it was analyzed total height, stem diameter, shoot fresh and dry weights, root dry weight, total biomass and maximum level of technical efficiency. Paricá tree...

Initial Growth of Mimosa scabrella Benth., Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi e Allophylus edulis (St. Hil.) Radl. with Different Levels of Mineral Fertilization PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Knapik, Juliane Garcia; Almeida, Lausanne Soraya de; Ferreria, Marcio Pinheiro; Oliveira, Edilson Batista de; Nogueira, Antonio Carlos.
In order to study the influence of mineral nutrition on quality and the growth of seedlings of Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi, Mimosa scabrella Benth. and Allophylus edulis (ST. Hil.) Radl, a experiment was conducted in the nursery facilities of Embrapa Florestas, Colombo – PR. The three species were sown in plastic containers of 50 cm3 in February 2004. The substrate was a mixture of a commercial formula (pine bark and vermiculite) and granulated coconut fiber in a proportion of 70% and 30% respectively. The treatments were three different dosages of mineral fertilizers, which were divided in two applications, base fertilizaton (mixed to the substrate) and covering. A completely randomized design was used, with 7 repetitions and 9 seedlings per plot....

Use of potassium silicate for powdery mildew control in Eucalyptus benthamii seedlings PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Schultz, Bruno; Bora, Karen Christiane; Nogueira, Antonio Carlos; Auer, Celso Garcia.
