A key to the species is given of Psilocybe subgenus Stercophila (Romagn.) Noordel., with a full description of Psilocybe dorsipora, new to the Netherlands, and the status of subgenus Stercophila is discussed. Within subgenus Hypholoma section Psilocyboides four new subsections are presented, viz. subsect. Elongatae, subsect. Marginatae, subsect. Tuberosae, and subsect. Ericaeae. A key is given to the species of subsect. Elongatae, with comments on the species and full descriptions of Psilocybe olivaceotincta Kauffm., new to Europe, and a still unnamed dark-coloured species. New combinations within subgen. Stropharia and Melanotus are given. |

Agaricus truncatus Schaeff. (Fungi Bavariae, pl. 251. 1763) is variously interpreted as a species of Hebeloma and Rhodocybe. Although the type-plate is not so easy to interpret, the adnate, sinuate lamellae, sordid spore print, and red-brown, truncate pileus give way to the idea that Fries (1838) was right in placing Agaricus truncatus in tribus Hebeloma. This opinion was followed by e.g. J. Lange (1938) and Moser (1978, 1984). Quélet (1880) had another opinion on Agaricus truncatus and placed it in the genus Tricholoma. This concept is known by modern mycologists as Rhodocybe truncata (Schaeff.) Singer. Still Tricholoma truncatum (Schaeff.) Quél., Rhodopaxillus truncatus (Schaeff.) Maire, and Rhodocybe truncata (Schaeff.) Singer all have the same type,... |

The genus Tricholoma contains several taxonomically difficult groups. During the revision of the genus Tricholoma for the Flora agaricina neerlandica, vol. 4 (Bas et al., in press) some of these groups have been tackled. Detailed studies are presented of sect. Lasciva and sect. Atrosquamosa subsect. Terrea with keys, descriptions, and comments. Where possible neotypes or epitypes have been designated. In addition two new varieties are described in other sections, viz. Tricholoma psammopus var. macrosporum and T. equestre var. populinum. Notes are given on some nomenclatural problems within the genus Tricholoma. |

This paper deals with the generic delimitation of Leccinum and the taxonomic and nomenclatural implications of the phylogenetic results presented in previous papers by Den Bakker et al. (2004a, 2004b). 28S nrDNA data, used in the past to answer questions concerning genus delimitation of Leccinum, are reanalysed. The phylogenetic inferences based on 28S nrDNA largely coincide with Leccinum sensu Singer. The only species that is excluded from Leccinum is L. eximium. At least one truffle-like genus, Chamonixia, should be included in Leccinum. Morphological characters proposed in the past to delimit the genus are discussed in the light of the phylogenetic results. It is concluded that there is no single diagnostic morphological character that unites species of... |

Keys to and critical notes on the European species of the genera Marasmiellus and Rhodocybe are given. The nomenclature of Macrocystidia is elucidated. Two rare species, viz. Rhodocybe melleopallens and R. fallax are fully described and illustrated. Rhodocybe mundula is reduced to the synonymy of R. popinalis. Rhodocybe nauceodulcis is transferred to Omphaliaster. The new combinations Rhodocybe microsporum (Velen.) Noordel., Marasmiellus omphaliformis (Kühn.) Noordel., Omphaliaster nauseodulcis (Horak) Noordel. and O. kyrtosporus (Horak) Noordel. are made. |

Eleven taxa of the genus Galerina are recorded from subarctic and arctic habitats in the vicinity of Shefferville, Labrador, Canada. They represent common, circumpolar species, such as G. sphagnorum, G. pumila var. subalpina, G. vittaeformis, G. atkinsoniana, G. paludosa, G. unicolor, and G. pseudomycenopsis, as well as rare species, recorded from arctic Canada for the first time, like G. cephalotricha, G. pseudomniophila, and G. subbadipes. Descriptions and illustrations are given of all taxa, as well as short comments on taxonomy, ecology, and geographic distribution. |

Some nomenclatural corrections are given as a consequence of the 1983-edition of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. The new combinations Entoloma sect. Candida (Romagn.) Noordel. and E. subgen. Pouzarella (Mazz.) Noordel. are made. Two new species are described in sect. Griseorubida, viz. Entoloma griseorubidum and E. calaminare. The new combination E. indutoides (P. D. Orton) Noordel. is made. Section Cyanula is emended to include all species of subgen. Leptonia with blue, brown, yellow, pink, and green colours. Several new taxa are described, viz. Entoloma chalybaeum f. bisporigerum, E. lividocyanulum, E. huijsmanii, E. viaregale, E. pseudoturci, E. porphyrofibrillum, and E. scabropelle. The new combinations E. chalybaeum var. lazulinum... |

While preparing the Strophariaceae for the Flora agaricina neerlandica, vol. 4, and the new edition of the ‘Standaardlijst van Nederlandse Macrofungi’ (Arnolds et al., 1995), the author decided to accept the generic concepts within the family as conceived by A.H. Smith (1979) and Kühner (1980) resulting in two genera: Psilocybe (comprising the genera Psilocybe s.str., Stropharia, Hypholoma or Naematoloma, and Melanotus), and Pholiota. This made the following new combinations and new taxa necessary. |

The present paper gives descriptions and notes on various white-spored agarics. Two species are new to science, viz.: Marasmius cornelii and Marasmiellus ornatissimus. Micromphale bisporigera is provisionally described as new. The following new combinations are made: Marasmius setosus (Sow.) Noordel. to replace M. recubans Quél., and M. bulliardii forma acicola (Lundell) Noordel. to replace M. wettsteinii sensu auct. eur. Hohenbuehelia culmicola is described as new to the mycoflora of the Netherlands. Type-studies are made of Marasmius pruinatus Rea and M. suaveolens Rea. A key is given to the European species of Marasmius sect. Gloiocephala and sect. Epiphylli. Some critical species, viz. Marasmius saccharinus, M. siccus, M. anomalus, M. buxi, M.... |

One new species is described, viz. Entoloma kitsii from the Netherlands; type-studies are given of E. lagenicystis Hesl. and E. rimosum Hesl., and a key is given to all species known in sect. Phlebophora. The new combination Entoloma pluteicutis (Romagn. & Gilles) Noordel. is made. |

The knowledge of the macrofungi (mushrooms and toadstools) in Europe, including the Netherlands, is still far from complete. During our studies on this group of organisms in the Netherlands and adjacent Belgium and Germany while preparing a critical identification work, the Flora agaricina neerlandica, a fairly large number of new species has been discovered, and a lot more has become known on the variability, distribution and ecology of the about 2,000 other species that will eventually be included in this Flora. In the period 1987-1996 four volumes have been completed of this standard work (Bas et al., 1988, 1990,1995,1996), three are in preparation, and we hope that early in the twenty-first century, the set of 10 volumes will be finished. The present... |

A neotype is designed for Clitopilus scyphoides (Fr.) Sing., an older synonym of C. cretatus (Berk. & Br.) Sacc. Clitopilus intermedius Romagn. is reduced to a variety and C. omphaliformis Joss. to a form of C. scyphoides. One new forma is described, viz. Clitopilus scyphoides f. reductus. Two new species of Clitopilus, viz. C. fasciculatus and C daamsii are described, and an account is given of Clitopilus hobsonii and its synonyms and misapplications. A new species of Leucopaxillus, L. cutefractus, is described from the coastal dunes of the Netherlands. |
