Helminth samples (n = 35) recovered from Oryctolagus cuniculus (Linnaeus, 1758) Lilljeborg, 1873 (3) and from another rabbit species, Sylvilagus brasiliensis (Linnaeus, 1758) Thomas, 1901 (32), from August 1909 to February 1948 and that are deposited in the Helminthological Collection of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute were analyzed. The studied samples were represented by the cysticercus of the cestode Taenia pisiformis (Bloch, 1780) and by the nematodes Passalurus ambiguus (Rudolphi, 1819), Vianella fariasi (Travassos, 1915), Longistriata perfida Travassos, 1943, Trichostrongylus retortaeformis (Zeder, 1800). The scope of the present investigation is to survey the parasites infecting these hosts, commonly used as laboratory animal models in scientific... |

The species Ascaridia columbae (Gmelin, 1790) Travassos, 1913, Acuaria mayori Lent, Freitas & Proença, 1945 and Aproctella stoddardi Cram, 1931, are redescribed and referred in new hosts. Acuaria mayori is reported for the first time in Brazil and Ap. stoddardi in South America. Ascaridia columbae is properly figured for the first time in Brazil. |

The digenetic trematode Psilochasmus oxyurus (Creplin, 1835) Lühe, 1909, although with a large geographical distribution, is referred in geese (Anser anser Linnaeus, 1758) for the first time in South America, on the basis of specimens parasitizing Brazilian domestic geese, with a prevalence of 20%. Brief morphometric data on the parasites are included. Clinical signs, gross and microscopic lesions were not observed in the birds. |

In this survey 1,500 samples of nematodes, representing 151 species, distributed in 20 superfamilies, parasitizing Brazilian mammals (Artiodactyla, Carnivora, Chiroptera. Edentata, Lagomorpha, Marsupialia, Perissodactyla, Primates, Rodentia) and deposited between 1916-1963 in the CHIOC were studied. New host records were established for 52 Parasite species distributed in 15 superfamilies, adding new data to previous reports of mammalian nematodes in Brazil. |

Three species of whale Balaenoptera borealis Lesson, 1828, B. physalus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Physeter catodon Linnaeus, 1758 captured in the Brazilian coast were necropsied for helminths. Balaenoptera borealis and B. physalus were infected by Crassicauda crassicauda (Nematoda, Tetrameridae) and Ogmogaster antarcticus (Digenea: Notocotylidae), which are referred for the first time in Brazil. Balaenoptera borealis was also infected by Lecithodesmus goliath (Digenea, Campulidae) and Bolbosoma turbinella (Acanthocephala, Polymorphidae). Physeter catodon was infected by Anisakis physeteris (Nematoda, Anisakidae), which is a new record to this host in Brazilian waters. |

Skin to lung migration of Schistosoma mansoni Sambon, 1907 - (75 Se) - selenomethionine-labeled cercariae was tracked by tissue autoradiography on days 1, 4, 6, 8 after challenge, in rabbits immunized with a S. mansoni derived saline extract. Either in vaccinated animals or in those of the control unprimed group, the peak of skin schistosomula occurs 24hs after infection. Comparison between peaks of lungs migrating larvae showed that, in control animals, the increase of worm burden in this site, is detected on the 6th day post-infection, differing from immunized rabbits, in which this peak occurs on day 4, when skin and lungs counts are still equivalent, decreasing gradually, showing a different pattern of the S. mansoni migration and suggesting that main... |
