| Estudou-se a flutuação populacional e distribuição estacional do percevejo castanho da raiz, Scaptocoris castanea Perty, no solo em diferentes áreas produtoras de soja do Brasil. Foram realizadas amostragens periódicas da população de percevejos no solo de dezembro/98 a maio/2000. Em Sapezal, MT (12º59' O, 58º45' S) as maiores populações de adultos no solo ocorreram de novembro a janeiro, com pico em dezembro, coincidindo com o período mais chuvoso. O número de adultos observado superou o de ninfas no período de dezembro a abril; as ninfas de último instar, foram mais abundantes de junho a outubro. | The aggregation behavior of Phyllophaga cuyabana (Moser) was studied and the hypothesis that the cluster distribution of larvae of this pest into the soil is related to the sites where females from the previous generation had aggregated for mating was investigated. Field observations and greenhouse experiments carried out in Londrina County, State of Paraná, South Brazil, indicated that: a) during flight, adult females of P. cuyabana select plants, which are more conspicuous for landing and/or attracting males; b) tall plants, nearby soybean fields, might be preferred because female adults do not move far from the mating sites before digging themselves into the soil to lay eggs; c) high density of eggs and larvae occurs close to the adult aggregation... |

| Laboratory and greenhouse experiments were carried out to study food and oviposition preference by Phyllophaga cuyabana (Moser) on different plant species as Cajanus cajan L. (pigeon pea), Crotalaria juncea L. (sun hemp), Crotalaria spectabilis Roth (showy crotalaria), Crotalaria ochroleuca G. Don (slenderleaf rattlebox), Glycine max [L.] Merrill (soybean), Gossypium hirsutum L. (cotton), Helianthus annuus L.
