Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Steud. shows relatively little growth variation due to climatic differences throughout the year and between years. The purpose of this study was to evaluate various cutting strategies for the management of Gliricidia for forage production in dry and rainy periods of the year. A randomized-block factorial experimental design (12 x 2) was used for the study. The factorial setup consisted of 12 pruning management treatments (cuttings at 45, 60, 75 and 90 days with 30, 60 and 90 cm residual heights) and two periods (dry and rainy season) with four replicates. There were significant interactions between the management regime and the season for plant height, stem diameter, stem diameter and the weight of both fresh and dry forage. The...

Potential in vitro degradability and gas production of the byproducts of the biodiesel chain Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Silva,Aderbal M. de A; Alves,Simone V; Bezerra,Leilson R; Carneiro,Heloisa; Oliveira,Ronaldo L; Medeiros,Fabíola F. de; Filho,José M. Pereira; Araújo,Dário R. C. de.
The objective of this research was to evaluate the in vitro degradability and gas production from different byproducts of the domestic biodiesel industry (Glycine max, Brassica napus L., Helianthus annuus and Raphanus sativus L.) using four increasing levels (0, 30, 50 and 70%) of replacement of Pennisetum purpureum. The inoculum for the in vitro incubations was obtained from three Holstein cows with rumen fistulas. Gas production was measured at 3, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours of incubation. The experimental design was a completely randomized 4 × 4 factorial arrangement, with byproducts and their levels being the factors. The results showed a significant effect (P ≤ 0.05) of all byproducts. A higher level of degradation was observed following 48 hours...

Performance of confined and grazing lambs fed diets with different mineral-concentrate supplements Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Silva,Aderbal M. de A; Bezerra,Leilson R; Rufino,Sara R. M; Filho,José M. Pereira; Freire,Juliana M; da Silva,Divan S; Oliveira,Ronaldo L; Bayão,Geraldo F. V.
For confined animals, performance is improved when their diet is supplemented with a mineral mixture and protein energy. This study evaluated the effect of dietary supplementation on feedlot sheep on native pasture. Two experiments were conducted in sequence, with the animals constrained in one and animals confined to pasture in the other. The experiments were conducted with 32 Santa Ines lambs, with average initial weights of 16.8 and 19.9 kg for the constrained and pasture studies, respectively. In both experiments, the animals were offered the following supplements: Supplement 1 = 200 g of the concentrate without mineral mixture; Supplement 2 = 200 g of the concentrate with mineral mixture + Mn + Zn; Supplement 3 = 300 g of the concentrate with mineral...
