Wild bees respond complementarily to ‘high-quality’ perennial and annual habitats of organic farms in a complex landscape Organic Eprints
Pfiffner, Lukas; Ostermaier, Miriam; Stoeckli, Sibylle; Müller, Andreas.
Agricultural intensification leads to large-scale loss of habitats offering food and nesting sites for bees. This has resulted in a severe decline of wild bee diversity and abundance during the past decades. There is an urgent need for cost-effective conservation measures to mitigate this decline. We analysed the impact of five different high-quality habitats on species richness and abundance of wild bees in a complex landscape of north-western Switzerland at six sites. The five habitat types included 45 plots situated on eight organic farms and were composed of 16 low-input meadows, six low-input pastures, seven herbaceous strips adjacent to hedges, five sown flower strips and eleven organic cereal fields. All of them are financially subsidised by the...

Landwirtschaftliche Fläche als Lebensraum für Wildbienen Organic Eprints
Ostermaier, Miriam; Müller, A.; Stöckli, Sibylle; Pfiffler, L..
During intensificaton of agriculture plant diversity decreased parallel with the decline of wildbee species richness. But wildbees are important pollinators for different crops and wild plants. Farming intensity and landscape infrastructure are key-drivers altering species composition and population densities of wildbees. We found, that extensive meadows and pastures, herbaceous strips beside hedgerows, flowering stripes and organic cereal fields can be valuable habitats for wildbees, also for endangered and oligolectic ones. The habitat-types included various plant species and landscape elements that are meaningful for many wildbee species.

Zur Produktionstechnik bei Weißen Lupinen Organic Eprints
Ostermaier, Miriam; Winterling, Andrea; Jobst, Florian; Jacob, Irene; Urbatzka, Peer.

Winterling, Andrea; Ostermaier, Miriam; Uhl, Johannes; Urbatzka, Peer.

It is known that a lot of agricultural crops are dependent on pollination by insects. While managing of pollinators for some crops is common, the effect of artificially breed bumblebees on yields of Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) is less studied. Here we present results of a field experiments where boxes with bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) where used to raise the pollination and thus the seed yields. By comparing test plots in different fields the effects were investigated. In the experiment no significant differences were found between the plots with or without artificially breed bumblebees. Possible reasons are discussed.

Keimfähigkeit und Sortenunterschiede bei Futtererbsen bei Befall mit dem Erbsenkäfer (Bruchus pisorum LINNAEUS) Organic Eprints
Ostermaier, Miriam; Jacob, Irene.
The pea weevil is one of the most important animal pests of pea. Larvae are living in and feeding on growing pea seeds. Because of this, they cause a reduction in seed quality. In our study the weevil lowers the germination capacity of seeds. It is also shown that the pea weevil attacks various varieties in different intensities in the field.

Die Anbauwürdigkeit der Blauen Lupine in Bayern Organic Eprints
Ostermaier, Miriam; Jobst, Florian; Deyerler, Manuel; Heinzinger, Markus; Urbatzka, Peer.
Blue lupin (Lupinus angustifolius L.) could be an additional local protein crop in Bavaria for animal and human food production. It would also enlarge crop rotation in organic agriculture. At the moment, this crop is mainly cultivated in the northeastern parts of Germany. It is adapted to pH until 6.8 and sandy loamy soils. Currently, it is not re-commended for cultivation in Bavaria. In field trials, different varieties of blue lupins proved to be worth cultivating on organically managed sandy loam and loamy sand on three sites in Bavaria. Boregine and Probor were tested for four years, Mirabor and Boruta for one year. All varieties showed high crop and protein yield, also compared to white lupins. Boregine had the highest crop yield, whereas Probor the...
