The objective of this study was to characterize of an unmanaged stand of Araucaria angustifolia and to development of models to quantify the wood potential, aiming to support the development of forest management plans in stands with similar conditions. The work was developed into a stand established in 1946, in National Forest of Açungui, in Campo Largo County, Paraná State, Brazil. There was only one thinning in the stand, between 1970 and 1980. From the frequency of individuals in each diametric class, it was observed the condition of stagnation and competition with cohort in the beginning of class distribution. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi ajustar modelos de distribuição diamétrica, relação hipsométrica, afilamento e volume, a fim de caracterizar as relações dendrométricas para Pinus sp. em fragmentos remanescentes de povoamentos da década de 1970 na região da Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Veredas do Acari, norte do estado de Minas Gerais. Foi realizada a identificação dos fragmentos de Pinus sp. e efetuado o seu mapeamento. Foram coletados dados biométricos das árvores para as modelagens da distribuição diamétrica, relação hipsométrica, afilamento e volume individual. This paper aimed to evaluate the accuracy of taper functions fitted with and without stratification on Pinus sp. trees. Three strata were allocated using diameter at 1.3 m above the ground, artificial form factor and Schiffel’s form quotient as stratification criteria. Schöepfer, Kozak et al. Hradetzky, Garcia et al., Ormerod and Demaerchalk taper functions were tested and the one which best fitted to the total population was selected by statistics standard error of estimate in percentage (syx%), adjusted coefficient of determination (R²aj.) and residual scatterplots.
