| ABSTRACT The low fruit set is one of the main factors leading to poor yield of pear orchards in Brazil. The exogenous application of thidiazuron (TDZ) and aminoethoxyvinilglycine (AVG) has shown promising results in some pear cultivars and other temperate fruit trees. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of TDZ and AVG on fruit set, yield, and fruit quality of ‘Hosui’ and ‘Packham’s Triumph’ pears. The study was performed in a commercial orchard located in São Joaquim, SC. Plant material consisted of ‘Hosui’ and ‘Packham’s Triumph’ pear trees grafted on Pyrus calleryana. | ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of metamitron or metamitron plus benzyladenine as a post-bloom thinner on ‘Baronesa’ and ‘Fuji’ apples. Three experiments (rate, timing and BA combination) were conducted during two crop seasons, 2013/14 and 2014/15 at the experimental station located in Caçador, SC. Fruit set, fruit drop, yield per tree, fruit size and flowering return were assessed. The efficacy of metamitron was affected by time of application, and when applied at petal fall, promoted the proper adjustment of the production load of plants. | RESUMOO objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da inibição da ação (pela pulverização de 1-metilciclopropeno em meio aquoso; 1-MCP) e da síntese (pela pulverização de aminoetoxivinilglicina; AVG) do etileno, sobre a maturação pré-colheita de maçãs. Macieiras ‘Royal Gala’ foram pulverizadas com 1-MCP (50 ou 100 mg L-1) em meio aquoso ou com AVG (124 mg L-1), sete e 28 dias antes do ponto de colheita comercial dos frutos, respectivamente. Macieiras não tratadas com 1-MCP nem com AVG foram usadas como testemunha. | ABSTRACT Carbaryl or the mixture of carbaryl with NAA (naphthalene acetic acid) or BA (benzyladenine) are the post-bloom chemical thinners most widely used in apple thinning in Brazil. The marketing restriction of carbaryl demands new options of apple post-bloom thinners, requiring the evaluation of others compounds for this purpose. Metamitron is one of the substances that may be used in chemical thinning of apples.
