Rice gall midge (GM) is an important insect pest in the upper north of Thailand i.e. Tak, Phrae, Lampang, Nan, Phayao, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces. Severe infestations generally occur during September to October. Prior to this study, only MN62M and RD4, the two glutinous rice varieties were recommended as resistant ones. Hence, the non-glutinous type with resistance to GM is in urgent need. The research has been conducted for 12 years during 2001 - 2012. The cross was made between PRE92039-3-1-2-1 and SPT82022-PRE-26-3-2-GM-6.
