The principal objective of the work carried out in the deep waters adjoining the island shelf around Martinique between July 1991 and april 1992 was to establish an initial inventory of potentially exploitable deep benthic resources. The cylindrical lobster pot used during fishing experiments allowed the catch of a varied carcinological marine organisms of which six species at least have economic interest : 5 species of shrimp all belonging to the sub-order of Caridea of the Pandalidae family : Plesionika edwardsi, P. (macropoda) polyacanthomerus, P.laevis, Heterocarpus ensifer and H.laevigatus, and one species of prawn of the Nephropidae family : Eunephrops cadenasi. The yields, compared to those of commercial fishermen, were medium or good for Plesionika... |

For several years the fishermen of the West Indies have directed their activities towards new fishing grounds, notably the bathyales zones adjacent to island plateaux up to approximately 1000 metres in depth. Explorations earned out since 1989 have shown that diverse crustacean populations could be exploited. However, populations and exploitable stocks arc not well known. The use of crustaceans traps as a fishing technique permits the capture of shellfish, shrimps and prawns of which at least six species could have commercial interest. The main objective of this work is do draw up an inventory of the principal commercial species as well as the accompanying species belonging to the subordres Decapoda macrura, anomura, brachyura, and to the orders Isopoda... |

The Morlaix and Penzé River estuaries, are important oyster-farming areas on the north coast of Brittany. It was thus useful to study the different factors of the environment that oysters (O. edulis) inhabit to determine, if possible, their role in oyster growth and fattening. Our study gives results on surveys of the animal and plant species that make up planktonic communities in this area as well as on the relationships that may exist between fluctuation in community composition and variation in temperature and salinity, based on data collected between 1963 and 1967. In each estuary, four stations were chosen. Plankton was sampled in each of these stations (Figure 1) and also, for purposes of comparison, occasionally in another station called... |

Several oceanographic surveys in Martinique waters with, as main objectives, either geological mapping and evaluating marine aggregate resources of research into deep water carcinologie resources, nafe produced interesting informtion on benthic pppulations situated from the infralittoral to the bathyal shelf, for the wole of faunistic groups and more specifically for the malacofauna. The distribution of the various faunistic group has been analysed in function to the bathymetric, edaphic and possibly, thermic factors. The infralittoral zones, up to the 20 metres isobath, and circalittoral, between 60 and 80 metres, are known to have the richest populations. Corals, sponges, polychaete annelida and molluscs are the best represented, numerically as well as... |

A detailed account is given of investigations carried out during 1967-1969 on dynamics and seasonal variations of dissolved organic matter, plankton and benthic microflora related to the feeding cycle of oysters. The dissolved organic matter was determined by oxidising it with KmnO sub(4) in an acid medium in the presence of manganese sulphate. The results were expressed in terms of mg of O sub(2) necessary to oxidise the organic matter contained in 11 of seawater. 2 main periods were noticed, 1 in winter (December-March) when the dissolved organic matter appeared to be present in small amounts having values < 2 mg O sub(2) and the other in autumn having a high dissolved organic matter content with values often > 5 mg O sub(2). The values for 1968... |

The advent of “coloured waters” yearly phenomena and especially of toxic species along the Normandy coast and adjacent areas required to draw up an inventory of the different organisms involved and to better precise their ecology. Several categories of planktonic and benthic microphytes give rise to the referred to above phenomena, most of taxa belonging to the Dinophyceae's class. Species as Prorocentrum minimum v.minimum, P..triestinum or as Gonyaulax spinifera, have been identified to be at the origin of coloured waters; Dinophysis acuminata, known for inducing diarrhetic intoxications (DSP) has also been identified. Besides, it appears that norman coastal waters are rich in unarmoured dinoflagellates, mainly in the Seine bay, in summer, benthic... |
