Genetic dissimilarity, selection index and correlation estimation in a melon germplasm Horticultura Brasileira
Gomes,Danilo A; Alves,Igor M; Maciel,Gabriel M; Siquieroli,Ana Carolina S; Peixoto,Joicy Vitória M; Pires,Patrícia dos S; Medeiros,Iago A de.
ABSTRACT The success of breeding programs depends on genetic variability. Individuals selected based on a few traits may be a limitation. One alternative is the use of nonparametric indices. However, there is no information on the use of selection indices in melon germplasms. The present study aimed to estimate genetic dissimilarity in a melon germplasm and select potential parent plants for future breeding programs. The genetic material consisted of 37 melon accessions. The traits assessed were fruit diameter and length, diameter and length of the fruit cavity and total soluble solids. Genetic dissimilarity was assessed by multivariate analyses (UPGMA and Tocher). Selection gain estimates were analyzed by comparing the classic Smith-Hazel and sum of ranks...

Multivariate techniques in the determination of genetic diversity in pest-resistant mini tomato genotypes Horticultura Brasileira
Maciel,Gabriel M; Peixoto,Joicy Vitória M; Rocha,Jaíne Priscila R; Almeida,Rafaela S; Oliveira,Camila S; Mendonça,Thiago Fellipe N.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to compare methods of multivariate analysis on the evaluation of genetic diversity of mini tomato and to identify promising genotypes with resistance to pests. The experiment was conducted at the Vegetable Experiment Station of the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, Monte Carmelo campus, from April 2013 to November 2016. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with 16 treatments and four replications totaling 64 plots, and each plot represented by five plants. Sixteen genotypes were characterized, 12 from the F2RC1 generation, obtained through the interspecific crossing between the wild access LA-716 (Solanum pennellii) and pre-commercial lines of mini tomato (UFU-73 and UFU-2) (Solanum...

Selection of tomato genotypes for drought tolerance and agronomic potential through different selection indexes Horticultura Brasileira
Oliveira,Camila S de; Maciel,Gabriel M; Fraga Júnior,Eusímio F; Peixoto,Joicy Vitória M; Assunção,Vitor B; Marques,Douglas José.
ABSTRACT The selection of genotypes with agronomic potential associated with drought tolerance is considered of high complexity. An alternative could be the use of selection indexes that can evaluate multiple characteristics simultaneously. This study aimed to select tomato genotypes with agronomic potential and drought tolerance by selection indexes. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with three replications. Ten treatments were evaluated: seven genotypes F2RC3, donor genitor (Solanum pennellii), recurrent genitor (UFU-040), and cv. Santa Clara. The irrigation was suspended until the substrate reached a matric potential of ≤-25 kPa for water stress simulation during the tomato cycle at 45, 60, 80 and 100 days after sowing. The...
