Gentamicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic complex produced by actinomycetes belonging to Micromonospora genus and classified among aminoglycoside antibiotics, used in the treatment of serious infections derived from Gram-negative microorganisms. Alterations of their antimicrobial activity not shown in chemical assays can be evaluated through microbiological assays. The aim of this work was to compare 5 x 1, 2 x 2 and 3 x 1 experimental designs, evaluating validation parameters of specificity, linearity, range, precision, and accuracy for each experimental design in different levels of concentration, presentation, and lots. It consisted of 81 assays (in 3 replicas) of gentamicin microbiological dosage. The concentrations of the solutions used were employed... |

Expired or unused medication at people's homes is normally disposed of in normal garbage, sewage system or, in certain cases, returned to the public health system. There is still no specific legislation regarding this leftover medication to regulate and orient the handling and correct disposal of medication waste. However, there is defined regulation regarding health services' solid waste. This article has the objective of discussing management models for the disposal of medication waste and the recommendations made by pertinent national and international legislation. By means of literature reviews, the management structure for medication waste of international legislation and the regulations regarding the environment, as well as the national legislation... |

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is an ocular inflammatory diseases treated mainly by means of a bevacizumab (Avastin®) or ranibizumab (Lucentis®) intravitreal injection. Among these drugs, only ranibizumab has a specific therapeutic indication for AMD. Considering that, the off-label use on ophthalmic therapy seems to become a rule when it should be an exception. Furthermore, bevacizumab presentation consists of multi-dose vials although it does not contain preservatives in its formula. The current literature review aimed at assessing the risks for the patient related to the use of off-label indication and multi-dose vials on AMD treatment. Considering this, the proposal related to the Brazilian Public Consultation no.10, dated September 12, 2012,... |
