| White lupin (Lupinus albus) can be an interesting crop for both organic and conventional farmers who are looking for leguminous crops to broaden their crop rotation scheme. Lupin is also of interest for food processors as a guaranteed GMO-free protein source for the replacement of soy. However, the available varieties ripen too late in the Netherlands. | Verslag van demonstratieproeven in het Drentsche Aa gebied. Extensief bemest gras gaf 76% van de opbrengst van intensief bemest grasland. De introductie van witte en rode klaver in het extensief bemeste grasland verhoogde in de eerste 2 jaar de opbrengst tot 88% (beweiden) en 94% (maaien) van de opbrengst van intensief bemest grasland. Direct zaaien van snijmais in bestaand grasland ten opzichte zaaien in geploegd grasland gaf gelijke opbrengsten, met hogere voerderwaarde (VEM). Het aantal regenwormen bedroeg bij ploegen 11/m2 ten opzichte van 76/m2 bij direct zaaien. De minerale N blijft bij direct zaaien hoger in de bodem dan bij ploegen, waardoor de kans op uitspoeling kleiner is. |

| Organic agriculture is a system of production and consumption in which values play a prominent role. The new IFOAM principles reflect the current worldwide consensus on the most important values of organic agriculture. Regionality or proximity is not explicitly mentioned in these principles. Also in the present EU-regulation on organic agriculture hardly any standards are formulated concerning this issue. On the other hand, some private organic labels do have extra standards - concerning for instance the origin of organic feed - while both producers and consumers of organic products often mention regional production as an important value. | De laatste jaren groeit de belangstelling voor de teelt en consumptie van peulvruchten, zowel vanuit de veehouderij als vanuit de voedingssector. Deze interesse wordt enerzijds ingegeven door zorg over afname van gewasdiversiteit in de akkerbouw en de afhankelijkheid van geïmporteerde soja uit Latijns-Amerika in de veehouderij. Anderzijds is er een maatschappelijk gewenste verschuiving in het westerse dieet van dierlijke eiwitbronnen naar meer plantaardige eiwitbronnen. Met name vanuit de levensmiddelenindustrie lijkt de interesse voor de bijzondere peulvrucht lupine te stijgen. Deze teelthandleiding gaat daarom met name over de teelt van lupine voor menselijke consumptie, hoewel zij ook voor de teelt van lupine voor dierlijke voeding bruikbaar zal zijn. |

| This article describes three experiments on the control of broad-leaved dock. Experiment 1: Dock seeds were ensiled in grass silages of different dry matter percentages; 23, 34 and 60% respectively. All silages showed a decline of seed vitality in time. Grass clover with dock seeds should be ensiled at a low dry matter percentage or remain in the silage bin for a longer period than 8 weeks. Experiment 2: In a potassium fertilisation trial on grass clover the development of dock was followed. After two years of potassium fertilisation, the number of dock and the root mass was not significant different between the fertilised and the unfertilised plots. | Particularly for organic farming, mixed cropping of cereal and legume crops can provide advantages in terms of nutrient use efficiency, weed suppression and more stable yields. Cereals benefit from the nitrogen fixing ability of legumes, which also result in higher protein levels in the cereal crop, improving its quality as fodder and potentially also as food. | Lupine (Lupinus spp) kan interessant zijn voor zowel biologische als gangbare akkerbouwers die zoeken naar een vlinderbloemig gewas om hun vruchtwisseling te verruimen, niet alleen als veevoer maar ook voor humane voeding. Het doel van dit project was een brede evaluatie van lijnen van witte lupine op hun geschiktheid voor teelt op kalkrijke kleigrond om te beoordelen of er perspectief is voor verdere veredeling voor zowel gangbare als biologische teelt.In dit rapport worden de meest perspectief lijkende lijnen vergeleken over 2012 en 2013 over vier locaties. |

| Like conventional farming, organic agriculture in the Netherlands is highly specialized. Both livestock and arable farmers have optimised production independent of each other which has led to a high use of external inputs from conventional agriculture (manure and other fertilisers and straw) and feedstuffs (mainly concentrate feed) from abroad.
