From the 8(th) to the 11(th) April 2007 at Reunion Island (Indian Ocean) some fish were collected at sea surface after the eruption of the Piton de la Fournaise. Among these are two specimens of Symphysanodon (Perciformes: Symphysanodontidae). This family was recently reviewed (Anderson and Springer, 2005). Ten species have been described: three from the Atlantic Ocean S. berryi Anderson, 1970; S. octoactinus Anderson, 1970 and S. mona Anderson & Springer, 2005; four from the Pacific Ocean S. typus Bleeker, 1878; S. katayamai Anderson, 1970; S. maunaloae Anderson, 1970 and S. parini Anderson & Springer 2005; three from the Indian Ocean S. andersoni Kotthaus, 1974 from the entrance of the Gulf of Aden, S. rhax Anderson & Springer, 2005 from the... |

This study concerns mainly 2 species Merluccius capensis and M. paradoxus; M. polli is a more northern species though the 3 species are known to inhabit the same regions. The life cycle, seasonal migrations geographical distribution and fishing grounds of the 2 main species are discussed in detail. The intensity of fishing in this region, over the past 10 years has increased to such an extent that during 1968 -1970 this production accounted for one half level on a world-wide basis. Attempts have been made by Britain to market this fish as a frozen product. |

The genus Pseudoscopelus Lutken, 1892 is easily distinguished from the other Chiasmodontidae by the presence of well-defined rows of photophores. Until 2005, eight species were known. Pseudoscopelus scriptus was the first described by Lutken in 1892, then P. sagamianus by Tanaka in 1908, P. stellatus by Beebe in 1932 and P. altipinnis by Parr in 1933. Later in 1934, Fowler described three new species: P. microps, P. cephalus, and P. obtusifrons. These three species, known from only one specimen each, have not been recorded since. Lastly, an easily distinguishable species, P. scutatus, was discovered by Krefft in 1971. In a recent review, Prokoviev and Kukuev (2005, 2006) confirmed the validity of all species and described a new one P. aphos,... |

Estimation of changes in the relative abundance of fish species in catches off Arcachon, on the shelf and in the Bassin d'Arcachon, from 1727 to the present day, shows that some previously dominant species are becoming scarce. Some are actually not caught now in the south of the Bay of Biscay. Among these are the large bottom-living elasmobranchs with low reproduction rates, such as Echinorhinus brucus, Squatina squatina, Raja batis, Raja brachyura, Dasyatis pastinaca, Myliobatis aquila, Galeorhinus galeus, Mustelus asterias, Raja clavata, ,.. and some actinopterygians, such as Trigla lyra, while catches of Eutrigla gurnardus are much reduced. Bottom trawling is principally responsible for these reductions but all fishing methods used there have... |

In 2008, were recorded for the first time Derichthys serpentinus in the Bay of Biscay, Kyphosus sectator in the Pays basque, Liparis montagui in the Charente-Maritime, Boops boops in Normandy. Some juveniles of Dentex dentex were observed in the bassin d'Arcachon in 2007 and 2008. We indicated also the catches of Tetragonurus cuvieri, Callionymus reticulatus, Seriola rivoliana and Brama brama. |

From the 8(th) to the 11(th) April 2007, at Reunion Island (Indian Ocean), some fish were collected at sea surface after the eruption of the Piton de la Fournaise. Among these were eleven specimens of Neocentropogon profundus (Scorpaenoidei: Tetrarogidae). Six species of this genus have been described: two from the Pacific Ocean, N. japonicus Matsubara, 1943 and N. trimaculatus Chan, 1966; four from the Indian Ocean, N. affinis (Lloyd, 1909) from the Gulf of Martaban, Myanmar, N. aeglefinus (Weber, 1913) from the Halmahera Sea, Timor Sea, probably a junior synonym of N. affinis, N. profundus (Smith, 1958) off Mozambique, and N. mesedai Klausewitz, 1985 from the Mismaris-Trough, Red Sea. The eleven specimens found at Reunion constitute the largest available... |

A new species of Muraenidae (Uroprerygiinae) Channomuraena bauchotae is described from the coastal waters of Reunion Island, Indian Ocean. The genus was considered to be monospecific, Channomuraena vittata (Richardson, 1844) being the only species known till now. C. bauchotae is differentiated by 132 vertebrae, 1 or 0 branchial pore, 5 preoperculomandibular pores, the pre-anal length (91,1 % LT), snout and interocular width larger than 14% of the head, vomerine teeth in a single row, biserial teeth on the jaws.
