In Selacians, cerebellum is made of archicerebellar parts: auricles, cerebellar crest, and a paleocerebellar part: cerebellum's main part. In Teleosts archicerebellum is made of granular eminences, the cerebellar crest, the cerebellar valve and the paleocerebellar, cerebellum's main part. The main part of cerebellum (paleocerebellum), which is the main focus of this note, is a mass, more or less voluminous, formed by a dorsal evagination emanating from the metacoele, totally or partly filled with granular masses. |

A characteristic feature of flatfishes (order Heterosomata) is the absence of pigmentation on their blind side. Asymmetric colouration is related to body asymmetry and with the bottom-dwelling habit of these fish. Pelagic larvae are symmetrical and usually possess chromatophores on both sides of the body. When one of the eyes migrates to one side or the otherto the left or to the right and the larva settles on the bottom, the chromatophores on the blind side disappear. In certain fishes, such as Reinhardtius, Glyptocephalus, Taeniopsetta, etc., the blind side is usually brownish grey since that is where the melanophores develop. In turbots (Scophthalmus maximus), the blind side is often yellowish brown and in this case, fishermen call them "double... |

A redescription of the genus Mustelus was undertaken in order to resolve the taxonomic confusion surrounding it. Metric characteristics, number of vertebrae, size and form of the teeth, colour, biology and geographical distribution are considered in description of the species M. mustelus (Linnaeus, 1758), Mustelus asterias Cloquet 1821, and M. mediterraneus new species, the several synonyms for each of which are listed. General remarks on each are made, and a final dichotomous key for identification is presented. |

The current state of affairs of marine fisheries is not the same everywhere along the coasts of our country. Written documents usually deal with the oceanic ports and fisheries which are the most industrialized, the artisanal fisherman from the South of France often being left aside by most authors. In the region, sea fishermen using a trawler or a tuna boat are, since the come back of the French people from Algeria and the building of an "ultra-modern" fish market in Séte, socially considered. But lagoon fishermen are still in the shadows. Apart from a few geographers, very few scientists have shown any interest in them and their fishery since Gourret in 1897. Today is the dawn of a new era for French lagoon exploitation; a slow transformation which takes... |

Following my research on labrid, I gathered and studied, on the spot or through samples I received, a large number of specimens from La Rochelle, Lorient, Le Guilvinec and Roscoff. I also had the opportunity to take a census of the members of this family on the Breton coasts and to approximately evaluate their frequency. The two most recent studies focusing, either on labrid fishes on the whole of the French Atlantic coast, or those of the Brittany region were realized by A. CANTACUZÈNE (1956), and M.-L. BAUCHOT and R. BAUCHOT (1961) - this last work is limited to Crenilabrus.... |

As I could not find any figures showing a Symphodus (Crenilabrus) melops larva (LINNÉ, 1758) in scientific literature about Labrids (Fishes, Teleosts, Perciforms), or at least larvae described under this name, I performed artificial fertilization to obtain some. These experiments were carried out with great success, and knowing other Labrid larvae, I can say that the larva described and figured by A.E. HEFFORD (1910) under the name Labrus mixtlls (L. bimaculatlls) is most certainly that of S. (Cr.) melops. |
