Het zweefvliegengenus Callicera in Nederland en België (Diptera: Syrphidae) Naturalis
Renema, W.; Wakkie, B..
The syrphid genus Callicera in the Netherlands and Belgium (Diptera: Syrphidae) In Europe six species of Callicera are known. Until recently C. aenea, rufa and fagesii were known from both the Netherlands and Belgium. The authors have studied all available material and have gathered field data. In this paper C. aurata is presented for the first time from the Netherlands. Nine females and one male were observed in south of the province of Limburg. All Belgian specimens of C. aenea proved to be C. aurata (pers. com. L. Verlinden). This means that C. aurata has to be added to the Belgian list and C. aenea has to be eliminated.

Drie maal is scheepsrecht, de zweefvlieg Chalcosyrphus eunotus terug op de Nederlandse lijst (Diptera: Syrphidae) Naturalis
Renema, W..
Three times does the trick, Chalcosyrphus eunotus back on the species list of the Netherlands (Diptera: Syrphidae) Chalcosyrphus eunotus (Loew, 1873) has already been reported twice for the Netherlands, in 1958 and 1965. Both times re-examination of the specimens showed that it concerned Criorhina pachymera (Van der Goot 1969, Van der Linden 1988). On April 6, 2000 a male C. eunotus was caught near Elsloo (Limburg, the Netherlands). The distribution, flight period and habitat of C. eunotus are summarised, and many new European records are given. Chalcosyrphus eunotus usually occurs in deciduous forests (Quercus- Fraxinus-Ulmus) and is often found along the edges of small streams running through the forest (Speight 2000; this paper). The larvae were found...

De zweefvliegen Chrysotoxum intermedium en C. fasciolatum Nieuw voor de Nederlandse fauna (Diptera: Syrphidae) Naturalis
Smit, J.T.; Renema, W.; Aartsen, B. van.
Chrysotoxum fasciolatum and C. intermedium new for the Dutch fauna (Diptera: Syrphidae) The first records of Chrysotoxum intermedium Meigen, 1822 and Chrysotoxum fasciolatum (De Geer, 1776) for the Netherlands are given. Specimens of both species were collected at the Sint Pietersberg near Maastricht (province of Limburg) in 1991 and 1998, respectively. Information is given on the habitat preference of the adult flies. A key is provided for the species of Chrysotoxum occurring in the Benelux. Both species are likely migrants and there are probably no established populations in the Netherlands.

Vijf soorten van het zweefvliegengenus Cheilosia nieuw voor Nederland (Diptera: Syrphidae) Naturalis
Smit, J.T.; Reemer, M.; Renema, W..
Five new species of the hoverfly genus Cheilosia for the Netherlands (Diptera: Syrphidae) Five species of the hoverfly genus Cheilosia are reported here for the first time for the fauna of the Netherlands. Keys are provided for the identification of the northwestern European species of the canicularis and proxima complexes. Cheilosia aerea Dufour, 1848 was only found in Zuid-Limburg, the most southeastern part of the Netherlands. Except for one specimen from 1943, all 14 specimens were collected in the 1990s. Cheilosia himantopus (Panzer, 1798) occurs in Zuid-Limburg and around Winterswijk in the east of the Netherlands. The species has the same distribution as C. canicularis (Panzer, 1801), with which it had been confused for a long time. Cheilosia...

Drie soorten zweefvliegen minder op de Nederlandse lijst (Diptera: Syrphidae) Naturalis
Reemer, M.; Renema, W..
Three species of hoverflies removed from the Dutch list (Diptera: Syrphidae) Doubtful records of three hoverfly species from the Netherlands are discussed. Two specimens previously identified as Cheilosia acutilabris Becker, 1894 belong to C. proxima (Zetterstedt, 1843). Five specimens previously identified as Melangyna ericarum (Collin, 1946) belong to M. umbellatarum (Fabricius, 1794). Four species previously identified as Paragus finitimus Goeldlin de Tiefenau, 1974 are now considered to belong to P. bicolor (Fabricius, 1794). These results lead to the conclusion that Cheilosia acutilabris, Melangyna ericarum and Paragus finitimus should be removed from the Dutch species list.

On present day islands and past distributions Naturalis
Renema, W..
Southeast Asia, and especially the Philippines-Indonesia-Papua New Guinea Archipelago, harbours the world’s highest marine diversity. This region also had a complex geological history. This raises the question whether these two attributes are related and, if so, how. To locally build high species richness in a region, the balance between speciation/immigration and extinction/exturpation should be positive over at least part of its geologic history.

Bijzondere vondsten van zweefvliegen in Nederland (Diptera: Syrphidae) Naturalis
Reemer, M.; Aartsen, B. van; Renema, W.; Smit, J.T.; Steenis, W. van.
Interesting new records of hoverflies in TheNetherlands (Diptera: Syrphidae) The preliminary distribution atlas of the Dutch hoverflies (NJN 1998) marked the start of the Syrphidae recording scheme (1998-2002). This publication has proven to be a major stimulus for the study of this interesting group of flies. Many interesting new data from field and collection work have become known since 1998. In this paper a selection of published and unpublished records is summarized. At the end of the project all available knowledge on Dutch hoverflies will be compiled in the Dutch Syrphidae atlas.

The genus Planorbulinella (Foraminiferida) in Indonesia Naturalis
Renema, W..
Species of Planorbulinella are common in several southern European Neogene sections, as well as on recent reefs in the Indo-West Pacific. So far, they have only been recorded rarely from the Neogene of the Indo-West Pacific region. The only published records are from the Early Miocene of Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. Two new species, a new record of a known species and an as yet undescribed species from the Neogene of Indonesia are reported herein. This increases the number of known Planorbulinella species from Indonesia to at least five.

The nature of aquatic landscapes in the Miocene of western Amazonia: an integrated palaeontological and geochemical approach Naturalis
Wesselingh, F.P.; Kaandorp, R.J.G.; Vonhof, H.B.; Räsänen, M.E.; Renema, W.; Gingras, M..
The Miocene Pebas Formation from the section Santa Rosa de Pichana (Loreto, Peru) was investigated using a combination of analyses of sedimentary facies, molluscan communities and taphonomy, and stable isotopes of both entire shells and growth bands in bivalves. Three sequences, comprising a succession of transgressive, maximum flooding and regressive/prograding intervals, are documented. Molluscs are most common in the transgressive/highstand intervals and are almost absent in regressive/prograding intervals. The fauna is dominated by endemic Pebasian species, such as Pachydon and Dyris spp. The nature of the deposits as well as the availability of oxygen varied in a predictable way within each of the sequences and determined the nature of the...

Flying high: on the airborne dispersal of aquatic organisms as illustrated by the distribution histories of the gastropod genera Tryonia and Planorbarius Naturalis
Wesselingh, F.P.; Cadée, G.C.; Renema, W..
The actual and fossil distribution patterns of the aquatic gastropod genera Tryonia and Planorbarius indicate that avian dispersal was an important dispersal mechanism in the geological past. Combining the distribution histories of these genera with ecological data on modern relatives provides insights into the process of dispersal of aquatic taxa in general. Avian dispersal of aquatic taxa is facilitated by a variety of factors, including mass occurrence in resting/foraging places of migrating birds, ways to attach to the birds and to overcome desiccation during flight, as well as easy reproduction from a single specimen when introduced into a new habitat. The uncertain taxonomical status of aquatic organisms, as well as biased preservation and sampling,...

Larger foraminifera on reefs around Bali (Indonesia) Naturalis
Renema, W..
The larger benthic foraminifera fauna from four regions at or near Bali are described. In 132 samples in total 19 species were found. This is a similar to species richness in areas like the Spermonde and Cebu, but the fauna composition differed markedly. For each species the occurrence at Bali and environmental parameters affecting this distribution are discussed. It is argued that the very low abundance of imperforate species is not due to the absence of their microhabitat, but due to climatic or oceanographic parameters. The most likely is the presence of periodic upwelling, which causes the seawater temperature to drop to low levels seasonally.

Larger benthic foraminifera and their distribution patterns on the Spermonde shelf, South Sulawesi Naturalis
Renema, W.; Hoeksema, B.W.; Hinte, J.E. van.
A systematic description of the distributional pattern of 20 species of larger benthic foraminifera on the Spermonde Archipelago and their relation with environmental parameters is presented. Around 13 islands transects at the exposed and leeward slope were sampled. Apart from parameters like substrate type, hydrodynamic energy and light intensity (directly related to depth) also nutrient availability and environmental stabiltity determine the distribution over the shelf. Some of the species, and especially the calcarinids, are less specialised to some of these parameters than in other areas. Elphidium craticulatum, showing chloroplast husbandry, is an important fauna component.
