Typification of Dairy Farms According to Criteria of a Socioeconomic Nature: An Illustration in "El Paramo" of Leon (Spain) AgEcon
Robles, Rita Robles; Vannini, Luigi; Nistal, Roberto Alvarez.
The impossibility of carrying out an individual analysis and of finding solutions for each agricultural business, makes advisable the use of classification techniques that allow the identification of groups with common characteristics. The aim of this study is clustering dairy farms in an agricultural region located in the north of Spain, known as "El Paramo". To this end, a survey has been carried out on a representative sample of dairy farms, and subsequently, a Cluster Analysis has been made, which has resulted in five groups of farms being clearly defined from a social and economic point of view.

Quality beef schemes and consumer perception AgEcon
Robles, Rita Robles; Vannini, Luigi; Alvarez, Roberto.
Meat quality is currently conditioned to the fulfilment of different requirements concerning food safety and other ethic and social aspects. Nevertheless, restrictions and other considerations going faster than the above mentioned aspects could be applied in order to gain a higher consumer’s satisfaction, that’s to say, a higher quality. On the other hand, many different studies point to the existence of important shifts that manifest the need to increase the knowledge about consumer’s preferences. This work analyzes different strategies used to increase beef quality, guarantying such quality with the presence of a particular distinctive or brand, at the same time that some aspects concerning consumer’s behaviour behind beef quality are manifested. Data...

Robles, Rita Robles; Vannini, Luigi; de la Puente, Telesforo; Fernandez-Revuelta, Jose J..
The notable growth experienced by organic agriculture in Spain, has not been accompanied by a similar development in the consumption of organic foods, with most of the organic agricultural output being exported. This study focuses in analyzing Spanish consumer's attitude versus organic foods, in order to identify the factors that influence the demand. For this purpose, 130 surveys are conducted among consumers in a medium-sized city in Spain and processed using different statistical analysis, determining the level of knowledge about these products, consumer's shopping habits, and criteria, which support or dissuade the consumption of these products.

Integrating extensive beef productions into the agro-food chain AgEcon
Robles, Rita Robles.
Agricultural outputs are immersed in a context of change characterized by an evolution from the quantity to the quality, in consonance with consumer's demand. Among the different productions, beef has been one of the more affected goods, due to the confluence of different factors, such as: the high international competition, the existing surpluses in the European Union, food crisis, as EEB, and more recently, those aspects related to animal welfare and the environment. Integrating quality beef into the food chain, and particularly, the one coming from extensive breeding systems, evidence different aspects insufficiently well-known, both, from the point of view of the production as from the demand. This article, try to identify such factors in order to get...

Typification and economic analysis of beef-producing farms in Spain AgEcon
Robles, Rita Robles; de la Puente, Telesforo; Moran, J.; Juan, A..
In spite of different economic agents’ interests, as well as the Administration’s effort in promoting extensive beef-producing systems over the last years, this kind of activity still hasn’t reached the desirable levels, being necessary that farmers perceive an appropriate benefit which supports their activity. In this sense, this paper, using the data obtained by a statistical survey representing all the extensive beef-producing farms existing in Castile and Leon (Spain), aims to analyze the economical results of extensive beef-producing farms, previously classified in representative groups according a quantitative method. The study is a preliminary research which intends to generate additional knowledge about the role of the different variables which...
