The processing of tropical fishes would enable French preserve makers to have their factories running at times when they are not supplied by the metropolitan fishery. As a consequence, we thought it useful to describe the preservation trials conducted on several species of tuna and other species, fished from August to November 1950, off the Mauritanian coast for most of them, and frozen on board "La Louise". |

We will not come back to the history of the diverse baits used in sardine fishing, as it has already been the object of a very interesting study by R. Legendre, Head of the Marine laboratory of the Collège de France in Concarneau, published in several publications and especially in the XIIIth Volume of the Revue des Travaux de l'Office des Pêches. Our aim here is to take stock of this issue which has been a hot topic for the last few years because of the war and can still be of some interest for those dealing with sardine fishing, for example for economical reasons. |
