Provision of an adequate mineral supply in the diets of ruminants fed mainly on grassland herbage can present a challenge if mineral concentrations are suboptimal for animal nutrition. Forage herbs may be included in grassland seed mixtures to improve herbage mineral content, although there is limited information about mineral concentrations in forage herbs. En grøn foderration med brug af urter i græsblandingerne gør det muligt i højere grad at blive selvforsynende med vitaminer og mineraler. Et forsøg med to økologiske fodringsstrategier har vist, at køer der ikke får tilskud af mineraler, men derimod får en foderblanding med et højt indhold af naturlige mineraler og vitaminer, har samme foderoptagelse, mælkeproduktion og reproduktion, som køer på en mere traditionel foderration. Blodprøver viste desuden, at køer, der udelukkende fik mineraler og vitaminer naturligt indeholdt i de forskellige fodermidler, havde samme A- og E-vitaminniveau i blodet, som køer der fik tilsat mineralblanding til foderet. |

The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of mixed grazing (MI) by sows and heifers with alternate grazing (AL) or grazing heifers (HN) and sows (SN) alone on animal weight gain, sward structure, herbage quality and composition, and selection during grazing. Mixed or alternate grazing consistently improved the weight gain in both heifers and sows, compared with grazing one species alone, but the positive effect was statistically significant only for heifers. The herbage quality of the MI and AL systems was better compared with the SN system, but not clearly better compared with the HN system. White clover soil fatigue is an increasing problem in Danish organic dairy farms. The clover cyst nematode (Heterodera trifolii) has been found to play a major role in the problem. Grassland legume species less readily attacked by H. trifolii and less favourable for its reproduction than white clover may offer possibilities for relieving the soil fatigue. In 2005, screenings were made of nine grass-land legume species / varieties in a field with a rather high level of H. trifolii infestation, pre-cropped with grass/white clover, and in a field with a low infesta-tion level, pre-cropped with maize. Køer, der leverer økologisk mælk, skal i praksis fodres med 100% økologisk foder. Derfor spiller afgræsning en aktuel og vigtig rolle for fodringen. På Rugballegård ved Danmarks JordbrugsForskning undersøgte vi, om det er muligt at maksimere optagelsen under afgræsning ved at bruge et leder-følge system. Ved udbinding havde vi 12 folde, som i løbet af sæsonen blev udvidet til 18 folde efterhånden som væksten af kløvergræsset blev mindre. Malkekøerne græssede to døgn både dag og nat i hver fold, inden de blev flyttet til næste fold, dvs. systemet er et rationsgræsningsprincip. Det nye er, at kvierne sammen med goldkøerne fulgte efter. In 1999, a mixed grazing system with heifers and pregnant sows was compared with grazing systems with heifers and sows alone. Normally, herbage quality used for sow grazing is not optimal for high herbage intake and it was therefore examined whether mixed grazing with heifers could improve the grazing system. Herbage quality and botanical composition of the sward was best in swards where heifers grazed alone, followed by swards with mixed grazing and the poorest quality and composition were in swards, where the sows grazed alone. The daily weight gain of the sows tended to be higher and the weight gain of the heifers was significantly higher for mixed than at mono grazing. The mixed grazing system seems to be a usable alternative for grazing sowas. |

Urter i græsmarken er blevet undersøgt i forsøg på fem økologiske kvægbrug og ved Foulum. Vækst, konkurrenceevne, foderværdi og mineralindhold i de enkelte arter i tre forskellige blandinger er undersøgt for betydningen af gylletilførsel, slæt/afgræsning og markens alder, og variation mellem gårde er beskrevet. De enkelte urter viste generelt det samme mønster på de forskellige steder, hvilket gør det muligt med generelle konklusioner. En oversigt over konklusioner for de enkelte urter er vist på sidste side af bilaget. Cikorie og vejbred var de stærkeste og indeholdt derudover en stor andel mineraler. Inclusion of forage legumes in low-input forage mixtures improves herbage production and soil fertility through addition of nitrogen (N) from N2-fixation. The impact of different grass-legume mixtures on the N contribution of the forage mixture has rarely been investigated under comparable soil and climatic conditions. We conducted a field experiment on a sandy soil at two nitrogen levels with seven two-species forage mixtures: alfalfa, bird’s-foot trefoil, red clover, or white clover in mixture with perennial ryegrass, and white clover in mixture with meadow fescue, timothy, or hybrid ryegrass. The proportions of organic feed and roughage in the feed ration for organic dairy cows have to reach 100 and 60%, respectively, in 2005. The aim of this study was to elucidate the long-term effects of reducing or omitting concentrate supplementation to high genetic merit dairy cows on a basal ad libitum diet of clover-grass (silage and grazing). Three concentrate levels, N, L and L+ (38, 0 and 19% of dry matter (DM) intake, respectively) were investigated in a herd of 60 cows during 3 years. The production in group N was 6723 kg energy corrected milk (ECM) per cow year, based on an intake of 6226 kg DM of which 38% was concentrates. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of mixed grazing with first season heifers and pregnant sows on animal performance, gastro-intestinal helminths, pasture quality and sward structure during three grazing seasons. This presentation will focus on results from 1999, primarily regarding performance and parasitosis in heifers. There have been no earlier reports on such mixed grazing systems. There is growing interest in establishing highly biodiverse grasslands that are also capable of maintaining high yields. In order to design successful multispecies mixtures it is necessary to know the competitiveness of individual species and how different management regimes affect this. Some species can survive in highly productive pastures, while others need nursing in special mixtures if they are to make a significant contribution to the forage. This is investigated in the ECOSERVE project and has also been studied in the earlier ORGGRASS project. |

Urterne er meget forskellige hvad angår konkurrenceevne og foderværdi. Foderværdien er lav i vejbred og bibernelle og høj i kommen. Produktion af afgrødetørstof ændres ikke med urter i græsmarken, men er der en stor andel af især vejbred, vil FE-udbyttet blive mindre. Benyttelsen påvirker konkurrenceevnen. Slæt øger andelen af vejbred og kommen, mens gylletilførsel øger andelen af cikorie. Espersette og kørvel har en meget svag konkurrenceevne. |

A grazing study was performed in 2006 over three two-week periods in May, June and August at the organic research station Rugballegaard, Denmark, where a herd of 48 Holstein dairy cows was split into four groups of 12 cows. Each group grazed one of four swards: 1) lucerne, 2) red clover, 3) white clover and 4) white clover with chicory, all four in mixture with perennial ryegrass. Milk and grass samples were analyzed to study the effect of each sward type on milk composition as well as seasonal variations. |

Forsyningen af de økologiske husdyr med mineraler og vitaminer er et af de områder, hvor der endnu ikke er fundet løsninger, som udnytter muligheden for recirkulering og selvforsyning på bedriften. Formålet med dette forsøg var at undersøge, om en integreret vitamin- og mineralforsyning kunne opnås i økologisk mælkeproduktion ved i så høj grad som muligt at anvende hjemmedyrkede grovfodermidler med et højt naturligt indhold af vitaminer og mineraler. Perspektivet er at opnå en højere grad af selvforsyning med mineraler og vitaminer til malkekøerne på den enkelte bedrift.
