Trace metal levels were determined in tissues of eleven species of marine fishes of commercial importance and in water and sediments taken from six sites located along the Nigerian Coastal waters. The Study was undertaken to determine the occurrence and the levels of cadmium, nickel, lead, mercury and zinc in fish tissues, water and sediments, and to establish a baseline data to which future studies on the levels of this metals could be referred. The total concentrations of each element in the samples were determined without regard to chemical form. Mean levels of each element are presented to relation to the number of species examined. More detailed analytical data on these elements are given with reference to tissue analysed, size range of fish and... |
