Data from laboratory range-finder and field test indicate that both biological agents, Milsana (VP 2000) and B. brevis WT, can be judged well-suitable for use in organic or integrated control systems. There were no negative effects recorded against Typhlodromus pyri (Laboratory and field) and Aphidius rhopalosiphi (Iaboratory). For further confirmation, limit tests under GLP (with the highest tested concentration) will be performed in the near future. When Myco-Sin was applied in combination with Milsana in the field, population levels of T. pyri were raised compared to the control. |

The plant and animal health care strategy in organic farming strengthensagro-biodiversity, protects the environment as well as animal and human health. In addition to fully exploiting preventive options, the use of external inputs such as plant protection products, fertilisers or veterinarymedicinal productsis allowed to prevent inacceptable losses in productivity or animal suffering. However, external inputs need to comply with organic standardsas well as European legislationand aretherefore carefully evaluated before any decision on acceptance is taken.Organic farming systems should aim at reducing dependency on off-farm fertilisers to the lowest feasable level to ensure closed nutrient cycles and avoid nutrient leakage and contamination. This policy... |

R. sachalinensis plant extracts (Milsana<l!», clay preparations and B. brevis were tested lor control 01 powdery and downy mildew and grey mould in organically grown grapes over three years. Milsana<l!> was in ali trials as effective against U. necator as sulphur, even in years with very high disease pressure. The plant extract showed also positive effects in Botrytis control. Myco-Sin<l!> was in ali trials as effective in controlling P. viticola as the copper containing agent FW 450. The combination 01 Milsana<l!>, Myco-Sin<l!> and B. brevis revealed the potential 01 B. brevis lor control 01 B. cinerea in grape berries, and indicated additional positive effects towards the contro I 01 U. necator. The combined use 01 these... |

A raw extract of licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) was tested against downy mildew in vegetables under semi-commercial conditions. In two greenhouse trials in cucumber, efficacies of ca. 70% were achieved (3% extract concentration) in either 7 or 10-11 day application intervals. Under open field conditions, weekly treatments resulted in ca. 2 week retardation of disease. In open field trials in lettuce, efficacies after weekly application of 5% G. glabra extract were variable, depending on disease pressure. In contrast, on lettuce seedlings in climate chambers, the extract reduced disease incidence of Bremia lactucae by 66 to 100%. In onion, applications of the extract at 6% concentration failed to control Peronospora destructor, despite of high efficacies... |

The project CO-FREE (2012-2016) aimed to develop strategies to replace/reduce copper use in organic, integrated and conventional farming. CO-FREE alternative test products (CTPs) were tested and integrated together with decision support systems, disease-tolerant varieties, and innovative breeding goals (ideotypes) into improved management strategies. CO-FREE focused on apple/apple scab (Venturia inaequalis), grape/downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola), and tomato and potato/late blight (Phytophthora infestans). Starting point of the project were ten CTPs with direct or indirect modes of action including Trichoderma atroviride SC1 and protein extract SCNB, Lysobacter spp., yeast-based derivatives, Cladosporium cladosporioides H39, the oligosaccharidic complex... |

In this deliverable of the Project OK-Net Arable project, the findings from peer-review research on the productivity of organic arable crops are reported. Then the conclusions and recommendations for five most important levers which can be used by the farmers are presented. Finally, the most important recommendations of the EIP-AGRI Focus Group on Organic Farming - Optimizing Arable Yields are summarized in order to put innovation on organic farms in its social context. |
