Wasserökonomie von Luzerne (Medicago sativa L.) unter Freiland- und Laborbedingungen Organic Eprints
Schweinzer, Agnes; Kikuta, S.; Friedel, Jürgen K..
Lucerne is one of the most productive forage legumes under the subhumid conditions of Eastern Austria. Even though it is known for its high water consumption, information about single species` water economics is still lacking. The aim of this study was a description of the variety Sitel regarding its water economics under moderate drought stress. Therefor field measurements of e.g. Total water potential (

Methodenevaluation zur Messung der Wasserökonomie von Luzernepflanzen im Trockengebiet Organic Eprints
Schweinzer, Agnes; Gollner, Gabriele; Friedel, Jürgen K..

Schweinzer, Agnes; Gollner, Gabriele.
Lucerne (Medicago sativa L.) is known for its high water consumption and is one of the most important forage legumes. However lists of varieties are still lacking information about its water use. Therefore this study focused on the evaluation of four varieties` water economy and yield stability by comparing plant water characteristics to plant production characteristics under field conditions. Relative water content (RWC) turned out to be the most proper parameter for analyzing lucerne`s water use regarding a significant variety effect. Nevertheless further research will be indispensable to give explicit cultivar recommendations for breeding purposes.

Auswirkungen unterschiedlicher Vorfrüchte und Düngungssysteme auf Ertrag und Qualität von Winterweizen Organic Eprints
Surböck, Andreas; Friedel, Jürgen K.; Heinzinger, Markus; Schweinzer, Agnes; Freyer, Bernhard.
The effect of different preceding crops and fertilisation systems on winter wheat yieldand quality was assessed in a long-term field experiment in Eastern Austria. Winter wheat following a 2-years lucerne crop had lower yield but higher protein content than winter wheat following peas. Lucerne green manure use in a stockless system increased yield and protein content of a subsequent wheat crop compared to a livestock-keeping system with removal of the lucerne crop for fodder use. Wheat following peas that had received farmyard manure in the livestock-keeping system only, showed higher yield than in the stockless system but no differences in protein content. Likewise, an additional compost fertilisation in the stockless system increased yield of wheat...

New challenges to improve organic bread wheat production in Europe Organic Eprints
David, Christophe; Celette, Florian; Abecassis, Joël; Carcea, Marina; Friedel, Jürgen K.; Corre-Hellou, Guénaëlle; Hiltbrunner, Jürg; Messmer, Monika; Peigne, Joséphine; Samson, Marie-Françoise; Schweinzer, Agnes; Thomsen, I.K.; Thommen, Andreas.
The total organic area in the EU-27 had an annual average growth rate of nearly 15% from 1998 to 2006 with winter wheat being the most important cereal crop. Wheat yield in organic farming is around 30% to 70% of yield of conventional farming but higher premia for organic wheat may to some extent compensate for this. Bread wheat is grown in a variety of crop rotations and farming systems and four basic organic crop production systems have been defined. Nitrogen deficiency and weed infestation are considered to be the most serious threat in organic wheat production. Organic wheat producers will have to fulfil the technological needs of bakers although the requirements differ widely from small artisan bakers to large enterprises handling the organic bread...

Langzeit-Monitoring der Auswirkungen einer Umstellung auf den biologischen Landbau (MBUIL V), Abschlussbericht Organic Eprints
Freyer, Bernhard; Surböck, Andreas; Heinzinger, Markus; Schweinzer, Agnes; Friedel, Jürgen K.; Bassler, Gabriele; Eitzinger, Josef; Holzner, Wolfgang; Kriechbaum, Monika; Meisinger, Doris; Pachinger, Bärbel; Prochazka, Barbara; Schauppenlehner, Thomas; Seiberl, Margit.
