Given that in Brazil there is a significant asymmetry in production and trade among states, this study had as objective to measure the border effect to the intranational and international trade, using it as an indicator of the degree of integration. Such effect measures the bias to the internal trade of a country or state, in comparison to the external trade. A gravity model, including different dummy variables was used as methodology for this study. Results showed that intra-state trade in Brazil was 32 and 96 times larger than interstate and international trade, respectively. Interstate trade, was shown to be around 34 times larger than international trade. The border effect calculated to each state trading to other states, and to the rest of the world,... |

This study aimed to calculate the patterns of similarity and income content of Brazilian, Russian, Chinese and Indian exports by means of indexes, and compare those patterns with those of OECD countries, covering a period between 2000 and 2009. The results indicate that Brazilian, Russian, Chinese and Indian exports became more similar between 2000 and 2006, but that similarity has declined ever since. Exports from China and India, in turn, are increasingly similar to each other and less different from the exports of OECD countries. Export sophistication has increased over the years, with higher growth rates in China and India. India and Russia's sophistication indexes surpassed that of Brazil in 2007, which signal that those countries currently export... |

In this study, a world model for the international market of coffee is developed and analyzed, considering its major exporters (Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Africa, Central America and Asia) and its major importers (United States, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, United Kingdom, Holland). That model is, then, simulated for several shocks such as the reduction of barriers that would reduce prices of coffee in all import markets, an increase in income that would increase the world demand, and variations in production of Brazil and Asia. The results evaluated in the short and long run, indicated that the main effects on the coffee prices occurs when there are changes in production, especially in Brazil. The reductions of barriers have small effects... |
