| Foram descritas a anatomia da articulação temporomandibular (atm) e dos músculos da mastigação do tamanduá-bandeira, bem como as suas interações nos movimentos mandibulares, considerando-se que a atm em conjunto com os músculos da mastigação possui características específicas e fornece informações sobre o hábito alimentar e o comportamento individual de cada espécie. O estudo foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética, protocolo nº 039/11. A fixação dos animais foi realizada com solução aquosa de formaldeído a 10%, mediante injeções subcutânea, intravenosa, intramuscular e intracavitária, seguindo-se à imersão dos espécimes em recipientes contendo a mesma solução, por um período mínimo de 48 horas.
