Evaluation of the critical points of the most adequate nonlinear model in adjusting growth data of ‘green dwarf’ coconut fruits Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Silva,Édipo Menezes da; Fruhauf,Ariana Campos; Silva,Edilson Marcelino; Muniz,Joel Augusto; Fernandes,Tales Jesus; Silva,Victor Ferreira da.
Abstract ‘Green Dwarf’ coconut is a fruit of great economic interest, since all its components are used, in addition to water, its main component. It is a culture of humid tropics, widely produced in northeastern Brazil, being an important income source for the region. The phenology study of this type of fruit is extremely important, but there are few studies in literature. Regression models, especially nonlinear growth models, can be of great value to understand how fruit growth behaves. The scarcity of works of this nature may be linked to some difficulties in estimating parameters of nonlinear models, such as assigning initial values to the itterative process. Overcoming this difficulty, for regression analysis, linear or not, several steps need to be...

Natural convection drying kinetics of ‘Prata’ and ‘D’água’ banana cultivars (Musa ssp) by nonlinear regression models Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Furtado,Thais Destefani Ribeiro; Muniz,Joel Augusto; Silva,Edilson Marcelino; Frühauf,Ariana Campos; Fernandes,Tales Jesus.
Abstract Banana is among fruits most planted in tropical countries and belongs to the fruit group most consumed in the world; however, banana needs proper conservation techniques. The aim of this study was to describe the drying kinetics of ‘Prata’ and ‘D’água’ banana cultivars at temperatures of 40 and 70°C, comparing the Henderson, STPE, Lewis, Page and Fick regression models, estimating the Absolute Drying Rate (ADR). Parameters were estimated with R and SAS Studio softwares, using for comparison and selection models of the R²aj, RSD and corrected Akaike Information Criteria. The Page and Fick models did not adjust, and the others presented good adjustment to data. The Henderson model was the most suitable to describe data of ‘Prata’ banana at both...

Drying kinetics of jabuticaba pulp by regression models Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Furtado,Thais Destefani Ribeiro; Muniz,Joel Augusto; Silva,Edilson Marcelino; Fernandes,Jaqueline Gonçalves.
Abstract Jabuticaba tree is native to the Atlantic Forest in Southern Brazil, and its fruit is widely consumed in the fresh form, but it is highly perishable, requiring conservation techniques. The aim of this study was to describe the drying kinetics of jabuticaba pulp at temperatures of 50 and 60°C, comparing the Henderson, Simple Three-Parameter Exponential, Lewis, Thompson, Fick and Wang and Sing regression models and estimating the Absolute Drying Rate (ADR) for the best model. Parameters were estimated using the SAS software. The evaluation of the quality in the adjustment and selection of models was made based on the adjusted determination coefficient, Residual Standard Deviation and Akaike Information Criterion. Models presented good adjustment to...

Leaf count overdispersion in coffee seedlings Ciência Rural
Silva,Edilson Marcelino; Furtado,Thais Destefani Ribeiro; Fernandes,Jaqueline Gonçalves; Cirillo,Marcelo Ângelo; Muniz,Joel Augusto.
ABSTRACT: Coffee crops play an important role in Brazilian agriculture, with a high level of social and economic participation resulting from the jobs created in the supply chain and from the income obtained by producers and the revenue generated for the country from coffee bean export. In coffee plant growth, leaves have a determinant role in higher production; therefore, the leaf count per plant provides relevant information to producers for adequate crop management, such as foliar fertilizer applications. To describe count data, the Poisson model is the most commonly employed model; when count data show overdispersion, the negative binomial model has been determined to be more adequate. The objective of this study was to compare the fitness of the...

Adjusting the growth curve of sugarcane varieties using nonlinear models Ciência Rural
Jane,Sérgio Alberto; Fernandes,Felipe Augusto; Silva,Edilson Marcelino; Muniz,Joel Augusto; Fernandes,Tales Jesus; Pimentel,Guilherme Vieira.
ABSTRACT: Assessing sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) stalk growth helps to adequately manage the phenological stages of the crop. The aim of this study was to describe the height-growth curve of four sugarcane varieties (RB92579, RB93509, RB931530 and SP79-1011), in irrigated plant-cane and ratoon cane plantations, using the Logistic and Gompertz nonlinear models, while considering all deviations from assumptions. The model parameters were estimated based on the least squares method using the Gauss-Newton algorithm. To select the most suitable model, nonlinear measures, adjusted coefficient of determination (R2 adj), residual standard deviation (RSD), and corrected Akaike information criterion (AICc) were used. Based on the best models, stalk height growth rates...
