Residual effect of cattle manure application on green ear yield and corn grain yield Horticultura Brasileira
Silva,Paulo Sérgio L e; Silva,Jaeveson da; Oliveira,Fábio Henrique T de; Sousa,Ana Karenina F de; Duda,Gustavo P.
The present concern about environmental degradation has produced a renewed interest in organic fertilizers, such as animal manures. In addition, the soil organic matter conservation is one of the most important limiting factors for sustainability development in semiarid regions. In a previous experiment, carried out to evaluate the direct effects of application of manure rates in corn, positive effects of this fertilization were observed on green ear yield and grain yield. It was also verified that manure increased water retention and availability, and phosphorus, potassium, and sodium contents in the soil layer from 0-20 cm, but did not influence pH, calcium, organic matter contents and the sum of bases. The objective of this work was to evaluate the...

Green ear yield and grain yield of maize after harvest of the first ear as baby corn Horticultura Brasileira
Silva,Paulo Sérgio L e; Silva,Paulo Igor B e; Sousa,Ana Karenina F de; Gurgel,Kamila M; Pereira Filho,Israel A.
Baby corn (BC) consists of the corn ear harvested two or three days after silk emergence. BC is a profitable crop, making possible a diversification of production, aggregation of value and increased income. Removing the first female inflorescence induces corn to produce others, making possible to produce several BC ears or, alternatively, BC (by harvesting the first ear) and green ears or grain. The objective of this work was to evaluate green ear yield and grain yield, after harvesting the first ear as BC. Corn cultivar AG 1051 was submitted to the following treatments, in a random block design with ten replicates (52 plants per plot): BC harvesting; green ear harvesting (grain moisture content between 60 and 70%); mature ear harvesting; BC harvesting and...

Effect of planting density on green ear yield of maize cultivars bred in different periods Horticultura Brasileira
Silva,Paulo Sérgio L e; Duarte,Severino R; Oliveira,Fábio Henrique T de; Silva,Júlio César do V.
Corn cultivation in the Northeast region of Brazil is characterized by a great diversity of production systems, ranging from large companies (modern cultivars and relatively high planting densities) to small farms (family agriculture, traditional cultivars, and low planting densities). In the present work we evaluated the effects of planting density (30; 40; 50; 60; or 70 thousand plants ha-1 - TPH) on green ear yield of cultivars Centralmex (traditional) and AG 510 (hybrid). Different densities were achieved by maintaining 1.0 m between rows and varying the spacing between pits, within the row. Cultivars and planting densities were combined in a factorial scheme, arranged in a random block design with four replicates and four 6 m long row plots. The...
