This dissertation analyses the barotropic and baroclinic response of the Argentinean Continental Shelf to different forcing using a three-dimensional numerical ocean model. The study aims towards a systematical exploration of the physical processes that control the circulation. To facilitate the dynamical understanding of the results our experimental strategy was to start with a three dimensional barotropic model (constant density) that examines the influence of winds and tides, and to progress to a more complex case including density stratification (baroclinic model).
