JERICO. Report on current status of Ferrybox. ArchiMer
Hydes, David; Petersen, Wilhelm; Sorensen, Kai; Jaccard, Pierre; Hartman, Mark; Haller, Michael.
This report provides: 1. A review of the present status of the 16 Ferrybox systems currently operated by JERICO partners. 2. Access to detailed information on the Ferrybox systems on line at the FerryBox project web site (www.ferrybox.org) at the link http://www.ferrybox.org/routes/northern_europe/index.html.en. 3. A set of recommendations and guidance for setting up a new Ferrybox system, based on the experience of the current status of the operation of Ferrybox systems. Next steps are considered in an overview of potential advances resulting from the work of the JERICO project. 4. Part of the JERICO vision is the improved harmonisation of activities through the sharing of information and the standardisation of operating procedures connecting operations...

JERICO. Report on best practices in conductiong operations and maintaining ArchiMer
Petihakis, George; Sorensen, Kai; Hernandez, Carlos; Testor, Pierre; Ntoumas, Manolis; Petersen, Wilhelm; Mader, Julien; Mortier, Laurent.
The seas and oceans are an intrinsic part of the earth and climate systems. They cover 70% of our planet, provide 95% by volume of its biosphere, support more than 50% of global primary production and harbour an enormous diversity of life adapted to extremely broad-ranging environmental conditions. The oceans are a driver of our climate but are also affected by climate change and ocean acidification. They are under increasing pressure from human activities and pollution, and growing coastal populations. The combination of natural and human-induced changes taking place in our seas and oceans including, for example, rising temperatures, the melting of Arctic sea ice, ocean acidification, increasingly extreme weather events, transfer of non-indigenous marine...

Strategy for sustainability of the Joint European Research Infrastructure Network for Coastal Observatories - JERICO ArchiMer
Puillat, Ingrid; Farcy, Patrick; Durand, Dominique; Petihakis, George; Morin, Pascal; Kriegger, Magali; Petersen, Wilhelm; Tintoré, Joaquin; Sorensen, Kai; Sparnocchia, Stefania; Wehde, Henning.
The JERICO European research infrastructure (RI) is integrating several platform types i.e. fixed buoys, piles, moorings, drifters, Ferryboxes, gliders, HF radars, coastal cable observatories and the associated technologies dedicated to the observation and monitoring of the European coastal seas. The infrastructure is to serve both the implementation of European marine policies and the elucidation of key scientific questions through dedicated observation and monitoring plans. It includes observations of the physical, chemical and biological compartments and aims at a better integration of marine biology with physical and chemical oceanology, through specific interactions with other relevant ocean observing systems that provide complementary observations....
