First Release of the SeaDataNet Aggregated Data Sets Products ArchiMer
Simoncelli, Simona; Tonani, Marina; Grandi, Alessandro; Coatanoan, Christine; Myroshnychenko, Volodymyr; Sagen, Helge; Bäck, Örjan; Scory, Serge; Schlitzer, Reiner; Fichaut, Michele.
The document describes the procedure implemented for the generation of the SeaDataNet 2 versions of the aggregated products. Detailed descriptions of the data sets par sea region (Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Arctic Sea, Baltic Sea, North Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean) are given with the general description of the dataset, the data quality assessment procedure and results.

A web-based validation platform has been developed at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) for the Near Real Time validation of the MyOcean-Mediterranean Monitoring and Forecasting Centre products (Med-MFC). A network for the collection of the in-situ observations, the nested sub-basin forecasting systems model data (provided by the partners of the Mediterranean Operational Oceanography Network, MOON) and the Sea Surface Temperature (SST) satellite data has been developed and is updated every day with the new available data. The network collects temperature, salinity, currents and sea level data. The validation of the biogeochemical forecast products is done by use of ocean colour satellite data produced for the Mediterranean Sea....

SeaDataNet regional climatologies: an overview ArchiMer
Troupin, Charles; Ouberdous, Mohamed; Barth, Alexander; Bassompierre, Marc; Coatanoan, Christine; Grandi, Alessandro; Lind Johansen, Sigrid; Ostensen, Oivind; Scory, Serge; Tonani, Marina; Toussaint, Marie-eve; Tronconi, Cristina; Beckers, Jean-marie.
In the frame of the SeaDataNet project, several regional climatologies for the temperature and salinity are being developed by different groups. The data used for these climatologies are distributed by the 40 SeaDataNet data centers. Such climatologies have several uses: 1. the detection of outliers by comparison of the in situ data with the climatological fields, 2. the the optimization of locations of new observations, 3. the initialization of numerical hydrodynamic models. 4. definition of a reference state to identify anomalies and to detect long-term climatic trends Diva (Data Interpolating Variational Analysis) software is adapted to each region by taking into account the geometrical characteristics (coastlines, bathymetry) and the distribution of...

The Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) provides regular and systematic reference information on the physical and biogeochemical ocean and sea-ice state for the global ocean and the European regional seas. CMEMS serves a wide range of users (more than 15,000 users are now registered to the service) and applications. Observations are a fundamental pillar of the CMEMS value-added chain that goes from observation to information and users. Observations are used by CMEMS Thematic Assembly Centres (TACs) to derive high-level data products and by CMEMS Monitoring and Forecasting Centres (MFCs) to validate and constrain their global and regional ocean analysis and forecasting systems. This paper presents an overview of CMEMS, its evolution,...
