Three groups of 6 pigs, three months old, were fed the same basal ration of corn and mineral mixture ad libitum. The control group received soybeans oil meal (solvent proc.), the second group raw soybeans and the third one, sprouted soybeans. The feed intake, daily gain and conversion were practically the same in the three groups as the analisis of variance revealed. Conclusion is it does not pay to sprout soybeans for pigs.

Bacta-mon, produced by Bacta-mon S. A., São Paulo, Brazil, is recommended as a microbiological, and suggested as a supplement for animal rations. This experiment deals with this product in chicken feeding. Size and shape in eggs of Rhode Island Red and Light Sussex breeds and in the hibrid Rhode x Sussex were studied. These characters are influenced by quantitative genes. Major and minor diameter were used for estimating size of the eggs and the ratio minor/major diameter for shape indice. It was found, in the material analyzed, that: a) the eggs laid by the sa- me chick are pratically uniform; b) the correlation coeficient between major and minor diameter is weak; c) Rhode Island Red has short eggs than Light Sussex; d) short eggs is dominant on long eggs; e) egg shape is the same in Rhode Island Red and Light Sussex breeds and different in the hibrid, which has rounder eggs than the breeds.

This paper deals with an experiment to determine the optimum period (number of days) in fattening chickens. Thirty chickens R. I. R. were numbered, weighed and feeded in crate, with one standard ration (17% crude protein). The chickens were weighted every two days and the results obtained indicate the optimum is reached between 12 and 16 days of feeding. It was observed that after 16 days the weights stop or decrease progressively as showed by the Grafic I.

At the 2nd. Department of Zootechny of the E. S. A. L. Q., in Piracicaba, between 1953 and 1955 an experiment of sugar cane varieties was carried out, with the objective of discovering varieties to substitute "Taquara" (the variety most widely used) and Co 290 (the most recommended). The former was condemned as being too susceptible to cane smut and the latter showes signs if degeneracy. In the experiment, 8 varieties were used with 3 replications in randomized blocks, in 3 rows each. The author studied in this paper effect of chicory (Chicorium intybus L.), kikuyugrass (Pennisetum clandestinum Hoahst) and a variety of Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactilon Pers.) named "Grama seda" as green feeds in growth of White Leghorn chickens (0-8 weeks). Males and females were se-pareted by feathering and development of comb. A test was conducted at Poultry Department of "Luiz de Queiroz" School of Agriculture to prove the effect of green feed on egg production. One hundred Rhode Island Red hens at plain laying period were divided in ten pens. The lot A was constituted of pens 1 to 5 and the lot B of pens 6 to 10. During 16 days the pens 1 to 5 did not receive green feed and the pens 6 to 10 received it with abundance. After and for a period of 30 days the situation was inverted. The analysis were made considering, a) the production of all chickens and b) discarding the chickens with irregular laying. In both cases the results were statistically insignificant, proving that green feed did not improve egg production.

The author studied the application of chick's feces from battery brooder in the feeding of weaning pigs. He employed a basal ration and substituted 5%, 10% and 15% of that basal ration with similar proportions of chicks' feces. He did not observe statistical significance among the treatments. The results measured in terms of average daily gain and feed conversion indicated that the substitution of 5% to 10% by equal proportions of chicks' feces produced satisfactory results, the 5% proportion being the most advantageous.

Two 50 R. I. R. chicken groups were contrasted, both receiving the same basic-ration differing only in the content of wheat bran or corn cobs meal. One ration had 10% of wheat bran and in the other one the 10% of wheat bran has been substituted by 10% of corn cobs meal. It was found on the final weight a significant advantage of 12,8% with wheat bran. However, the development of chikens receiving corn cobs meal was quite normal.

The A. studied the use of "crescilin", a residual byproduct of penicillin manufacture. It has been recommended the proportion of 1 per cent and proclaimed to supply 400,000 U. O. per kg. The results obtained permited to conclude that 1 per cent of crescilin did not increase the growth of pigs.

The effect of "Capastrol", pellets of diethilstilbestrol at 0,015 g., in 12 weeks S. C. W. Leghorn cockerels, was studied. The results secured are in accordance with those obtained by other authors and can be resumed as follows: 1) paleness and shrunken of the comb, whose size is reduced, in comparison with the controls; 2) no differences in the total weight gain between control and treated lot; 3) size of testis greatly reduced in treated males; 4) improvement of meat by fat deposition in chickens that received treatment.

The authors prove some approximate formulas for the computation of the mean and the standard error of quotients of two variates, correlated or uncorrelated, with not too high coefficient of variation. The formulas obtained are subsequently applied to some date on mensuration of horses of the Brazilian breed Mangalarga, by the eclectic system of LESBRE. The relsults obtained directly by the actual computation of the quotients as well as by means of the formulas with the aid of statistics of the numerators and the denominators are given in table 3, showing excellent agreement.

The author studied in this paper the influence of liquid whey in feeding Pekin ducklings. Wet mash, either by liquid whey or water, was given to the ducklings during the whole day. Green feed was added to the ration just once a day. The statistical analysis did not show significant differences between the use of water and liquid whey but the results obtained with wet mash proved to be statistically better than the results obtained with dry mash.
