Laparoscopic ovum pick-up in spotted paca ( Cuniculus pacas ) Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Barros,F.F.P.C.; Teixeira,P.P.M.; Uscategui,R.A.R.; Coutinho,L.N.; Brito,M.B.S.; Kawanami,A.E.; Almeida,V.T.; Mariano,R.S.G.; Nociti,R.P.; Machado,M.R.F.; Vicente,W.R.R..
ABSTRACT The aim of this work is study the laparoscopic ovum pick-up (LapOPU) technique in spotted paca, describing surgery details, complications and oocyte recovery rate. Nine healthy adult non-pregnant captive females were used, in a total of 39 procedures. When the surgical plane of anaesthesia was achieved, the females were positioned at 20º Trendelenburg. Three 6mm trocars were placed on right and left inguinal and hypogastric regions. Abdomen was inflated with CO2 and the intra-abdominal pressure was stablished in 10mmHg. Follicular punctures were performed moving the ovaries with atraumatic forceps. For punctures, an 18-gauge 3.5 inch long needle attached to a vacuum system with pressure not exceeding 65mmHg was used. Oocytes were recovered into...

Hematological and biochemical parameters in Spotted Paca (Cuniculus paca) undergoing pharmacological restraint and general anesthesia Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Uscategui,R.A.R.; Santos,V.J.C.; Almeida,V.T.; Barros,F.F.P.C.; Kawanami,A.E.; Cruz,N.R.N.; Feliciano,M.A.R.; Vicente,W.R.R..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to assess the effects of chemical restraint, general anesthesia and opioid treatment on hematological components in Cuniculus paca. Eight healthy, adult, captivity female animals , underwent three laparoscopic procedures with a 15-day interval were evaluated. After physical restraint, an association of ketamine (25mg/kg) and midazolam (0.5mg/kg) was administered intramuscularly for chemical restraint. Posteriorly, anesthesia was induced and maintained with isoflurane; and randomly administered methadone (0.5mg/kg), tramadol (5mg/kg) or saline-placebo (0,1mL/kg) intramuscularly. After pharmacological restraint and in the final laparoscopy stage, venous blood samples were obtained for complete blood count, total plasma...

Pulmonar ARFI elastography and ultrasonography of canine fetal hydrops: case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Maronezi,M.C.; Madruga,G.M.; Uscategui,R.A.R.; Simões,A.P.R.; Silva,P.; Rodrigues,M.G.K.; Cintra,C.A.; Assis,A.R.; Vicente,W.R.R.; Feliciano,M.A.R..
ABSTRACT This case report describes diagnostic and prognostic applicability of pulmonary acoustic radiation force impulse elastography and ultrasonography in canine hydrops fetalis. We also explore these methods’ potential in prediction of postnatal respiratory dysfunction. Two pregnant bitches (English bulldog [case 1] and French bulldog [case 2]) were referred for sonographic evaluation in their last week of pregnancy. Ultrasound showed that in each bitch, one fetus presented with lung alterations (hyperechogenicity, irregular surface, and pleural effusion) and anasarca. The other fetuses of the litter were normal, and they were observed as light gray and dark blue on pulmonary elastography. Their shear-wave velocity was 0.75m/s. Fetuses with hydrops...

Cardiovascular assessment in Female Spotted Paca ( Cuniculus paca ) Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Almeida,V.T.; Uscategui,R.A.R.; Restan,W.A.Z.; Feliciano,M.A.R.; Ortiz,E.M.; Kawanami,A.E.; Barros,F.F.P.C.; Santos,V.J.C.; Vicente,W.R.R..
ABSTRACT Aiming to provide cardiovascular morphophysiology information on the Cuniculus paca, an important neotropical rodent, eight healthy adult females of this species were evaluated three times by echocardiography under general anesthesia with isoflurane every 15 days. The exams were performed by a single experienced evaluator with the animals positioned in right and left decubitus. Posteriorly, two expert evaluators measured the cardiac chambers, walls and flow patterns, by B-mode, M-mode, and Doppler ultrasonography. The resulting values were compared among evaluators and periods by the Bland-Altman agreement test and several descriptive statistics were presented for each parameter. Echocardiographic images were obtained between the second and fifth...

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of twins in two pregnant bitches: case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Pavan,L.; Gasser,B.; Santos,V.J.C.; Maronezi,M.C.; Silva,P.; Assis,A.R.; Garcia,P.H.S.; Martins Junior,R.; Uscategui,R.A.R.; Feliciano,M.A.R..
ABSTRACT Multiple pregnancies in humans account for only 3% of pregnancies, 97-98% of which are twin pregnancies and the morbimortality is higher in the monochorionic twins when compared to dichorionic ones. The canine species is naturally multiparous, but the diagnosis of monochorionic twin pregnancy is not common. The objective of this report was to describe the ultrasonographic diagnosis of monochorionic twin pregnancies in two bitches [Pug (case 1) and Shih tzu (case 2)]. It was possible to verify the presence of one gestational vesicle containing two fetuses in each female by observing two heads or two bodies within the same placental site. These fetuses presented adequate viability and normal organogenesis. Their development was similar to the other...
