| Sustainable forest management is more than limiting harvesting volume of timber in tall forest areas. Reclamation and restoration of depleted forest areas is gaining importance as areas of remaining tall forest are diminishing. Irrespective of the causal factors be it unsustainable logging, mining or forest fires, secondary forest resulting from these activities deserve special attention. In East Kalimantan a wide variety of trees has been used for reforestation of areas affected by the devastating fires of 1982- 1983. | Baccharis halimifolia L. (Struikaster) is voor het eerst in 2003 in Nederland waargenomen bij Kwade Hoek op Goeree. Sindsdien is de soort nog eenmaal waargenomen, in een verwaarloosde volkstuin. Ondertussen bleek hij tijdens een inspectie in 2012 te zijn verdwenen van de eerste locatie. De aanwezigheid van zaadproducerende planten juist over de grens in België doet de vraag rijzen of de soort echt niet aanwezig is in Nederland, of niet herkend wordt. Met deze oproep willen we de aandacht op deze soort richten en vragen om waarnemingen door te geven. | This project of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh aims to provide regional manuals and on-line identification computer programs to the timber species of Dipterocarpaceae. The Singapore manual is a first trial, later editions should include other islands in the Malay Archipelago. The possibility is also offered to have tailor-made manuals for specific regions against cost price. Many data have been gathered, especially vegetative characters one can readily observe while standing underneath these enormous trees. In this respect the database will be very useful, because due to the very irregular flowering of the Dipterocarpaceae, flowers and fruits are usually unavailable, and even if they are present, they are found high in the tree. |

| Import van landbouwproducten, in het bijzonder zaden, zijn een belangrijke bron voor de introductie van exotische plantensoorten. In dit artikel wordt ingegaan op twee studies naar het voorkomen van exotische planten, in het bijzonder uit het geslacht Ambrosia, in geïmporteerde partijen zaden. Met name van Alsemambrosia (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) is bekend dat het pollen een sterke hooikoortsreactie kan veroorzaken en derhalve gezondheidsrisico’s met zich meebrengt. In de eerste studie is gekeken naar verontreiniging van exotische planten in kruiden en in basiszaden voor veevoeder en plantaardige olie. | Landoltia punctata, een oorspronkelijk Australische en Zuidoost-Aziatische soort, is voor het eerst in 2007 ook in Nederlandse buitenwateren waargenomen. De soort, die in het Nederlands Smal kroos gaat heten, valt op door de omgekeerd eironde tot enigszins asymmetrisch niervormige schijfjes, met een of drie gewelfde nerven. De onderzijde kan paarsrood zijn, vooral aan de randen van de schijfjes. De schijfjes hebben meer dan één, maar niet veel wortels. De soort is veelvuldig aanwezig als verontreiniging in waterbakken bij tuincentra en dierenspeciaalzaken die aquariumplanten verkopen.
