Psammonema gen. n. and Pseudochromadora Daday, 1889 (Nematoda, Desmodoridae) from sandy sediments of Gazi, Kenya OMA
Verschelde, D.; Vincx, M..
Three new species (Psammonema ovisetosum gen. et sp. n., Pseudochromadora coomansi sp. n.and Pseudochromadora buccobulbosa sp. n.; including all juvenile stages) belonging to a known and to a new genus of the family Desmodoridae (Nematoda, Desmodoroidea) were found in sandy sediments of the intertidal zone in front of the estuarine mangroves of Gazi, Kenya. Psammonema gen. n. differs from Pseudochromadora Daday, 1889 in shape and number of somatic setae in pharyngeal region, in position and shape of lateral alae, and in the anterior position of the amphids on the head capsule. Comments are given on the ecto-symbiotic organisms, feeding habits of the species and...

Revision of Desmodora with descriptions of new Desmodorids (Nematoda) from hydrothermal vents of the Pacific OMA
Verschelde, D.; Gourbault, N.; Vincx, M..
In this article four species of Desmodoridae, Desmodora alberti sp. nov., Desmodora marci sp. nov., Desmodorella balteata sp. nov. and Desmodorella spineacaudata sp. nov. (Nematoda: Desmodoridae), are described from hydrothermal vents of the Pacific. The genus Desmodora is revised and lists of valid species are provided; four subgenera are reinstated as genera; Xenodesmodora is regarded as genus inquirendum. Definitions of some morphological structures are given.

Draconematidae (Nematoda, Desmodoroidea) from the Coast of Kenya, East Africa OMA
Verschelde, D.; Vincx, M..
Six species of the family Draconematidae from the intertidal zone of the beaches of Gazi and Malindi, Kenya, are described or provided with additional information. Dracognomus annae sp. n. is characterised by its round rostrum, and by the shape of the male spicules; Dracognomus dermatoglyphus sp. n. is characterized by its indented rostrum, the fingerprint-like pattern of the annules at the mid-body region, and males by their spicules with hook-shaped capitulum; Dracograllus gilbertae sp. n. is characterized by its large fovea amphidialis, its slender posterior adhesion tubes, and a ventral postcloacal swelling at the base of the tail. Only one female and one juvenile was found of a...

Epsilonematidae (Nematoda: Desmodoroidea) from the East African coast, with a discussion on the external morphology of cuticular appendages OMA
Verschelde, D.; Vincx, M..
Morphological features of the cuticular appendages, such as spines, thorns, setae and flaps are described on the basis of SEM pictures of three new and three known species of the Epsilonematidae from East African coasts. Epsilonema espeeli sp.n. is characterized by the presence of six subcephalic setae and a large number of hair-like spines on the dorsal body side; males are characterized by three pairs of copulatory thorns, three precloacal thorns and an anal tube; females have a large citucular flap covering the vulva. Metepsilonema iuvenisspinosum sp.n. is characterized by its small size, ornamentation and shape of the body annules, conspicuous inversions in direction of the body annules (3 dorsal inversions and 1 ventral inversion), oval amphid, 4...

Polkepsilonema mombasae gen. et sp. n. and Pternepsilonema servaesae gen. et sp. n. (Nematoda, Epsilonematidae) from East African coasts OMA
Verschelde, D.; Vincx, M..
Two new genera and species from Kenyan tidal areas, Polkepsilonema mombasae gen. et sp.n. and Pternepsilonema servaesae gen. et sp.n., are described. Both are characterized by the presence of at least fourteen subcephalic setae and by thick thorns on the ventral body region of males. In the first genus, eight to ten subcephalic setae are situated at the posterior edge of the rostrum, and the ambulatory setae are straight. A key of the 13 genera of the Epsilonematidae is presented.

Freeliving marine nematodes from East African coasts Bathyepsilonema anulosum sp. n. and Leptepsilonema richardi sp. n. OMA
Verschelde, D.; Vincx, M..
Two new epsilonematid nematode species from Kenyan intertidal areas are describe: Bathyepsilonema anulosum sp. n. -characterized by the large number of body-annules (118-124); small amphid, straight ambulatory setae and the very small copulatory thorns of the males- and Leptepsilonema richardi sp. n., -characterized by the sexual dimorphism in the amphid, the ornamentation of the body cuticle and the umbrella shaped captulum in the males.
