ATP-content and adenylate energy charge (AEC) ratios were determined in two polychaete species (Nereis diversicolor and Nephtys sp.), sampled in ten stations along the heavily polluted Western Scheldt estuary (N. Belgium, S. Holland). The samples were taken between 27 December 1982 and 6 January 1983. Nereis diversicolor was also sampled in an unpolluted brackish water pond, and subjected to artificial stress by drying the organisms on filter paper. Adenine nucleotide levels were determined using the firefly bioluminescence reaction. The light emission was measured with the integration mode. As the "Constant Light Signal" reagent used contained APM and probably ADP itself, both myokinase and... |
