Before my departure to Java I intended to give a monographic revision of the Neuropteroidea of Insulinde, but want of time and of sufficient materials forced me to give up this intention and I restricted it to the monographic revision of the MECOPTERA and PLANIPENNIA, the two orders I studied with special attention since 3 years in behalf of the „Catalogue des collections du baron E. de Sélys Lougchamps”. The territories that I name Insulinde are the Dutch colonies of the malayan and papuan archipelago. I describe also the species known from those parts of Borneo and New Guinea, that do not belong to the dutch possessions, as they very probably also will occur in them. Those of neighbouring countries are noted so far as they are important for comparison. |

I have compared this species with Haploglenius and Episperches but better I could compare it with the Australian genus Stilbopteryx Newm. which I had not seen before I made my description. The form of the head with the very short antennae, which are, like those of Stilbopteryx, shorter than the thorax, the round pterostigma, ferrugineous in Albardia, white in Stilbopteryx, and also the simple sinuated postcosta are characters of near relationship. According to Mc. Lachlan (J. Linn. Soc. XI, p. 229, 1871) the Stilbopteryx ♂ has a pelotte, and must therefore be placed in the Myrmeleontidae, in Albardia it is wanting and therefore this genus belongs to the Ascalaphidae. By the simple and sinuated postcosta the two genera are related to all American... |

Dressing up the Catalogue of the Neuropterous Insects in the collections of the Leyden Museum, I found in the collection of the late Mr. H. Albarda six specimens of a Theleproctophylla from Asia minor (Lycia, Makri). They were placed beyond a label bearing the name Bubo agrioides Rambur”, but as this name is not written by Mr. Albarda on the underside of the label of origin, I think these specimens were placed there only provisionally. I have in my own collection one specimen of the same species from Mardin, Mesopotamia, purchased from Dr. Staudinger under the name Theleproctophylla barbara L. Not being in the possession of the true barbara I had compared my specimen with the figure in Costa’s »Fauna Napoli”, but as most of the figures in this work are... |

Linnaeus has described two species of this family in his genera Hemerobius and Myrmeleon. The Hemerobius longicornis L., Mus. Lud. Ulr. p. 402, u. 2 (1764), is after his short description certainly the well known Ascalaphus longicornis (L.) that occurs in Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain and Algeria. The second described Myrmeleon barbarum, Syst. Natur. Ed. XII, p. 914, n. 5 (1768), however, is misunderstood by the authors. Fabricius, the author of the genus Ascalaphus, System. Entom. p. 313 (1775), enumerates it as the first species in this genus and gives a copy of Linnaeus’ description. But this genus, being restricted by Lefèbvre and the later authors for the wellknown palaearctic species with coloured wings, cannot be limited to barbarum again. Most... |

This genus was erected by Mac Lachlan [Journ. Linn. Soc. XI, p. 261 (1871)] for a group of Indian species described by Walker [Cat. Brit. Mus. Neur. (1853)]. Mac Lachlan gives but a preliminary review of the synonymy of the species which were all described by Walker in such an unintelligible manner, that it is impossible to judge after his descriptions about their synonymy. Some weeks ago Mr. W. F. Kirby communicated me the Ascalaphidae of the British Museum and among them were three cotypes of Walker, which he kindly had compared. They agree very well with Walker’s descriptions and belong to the species insimulans, immotus and dicax. As the individuals vary very much in colour after the degree of maturity and as the species have a very large geographical... |

About 8 months ago I finished my monograph of the Megaloptera (Sialidae) for the „Catalogue des Collections Zoologiques du baron E. de Selys Longchamps.” Though the work is since ready for the press, it cannot yet be printed. As there are many new genera and species described in it and because other workers in this interesting family might describe them before my monograph has been published, I give here short descriptions of them in order to secure their priority. This order of insects, separated from the other Neuroptera and especially from the Planipennia under the name of Megaloptera, contains two families: the primitive Sialidae and the much higher specialised Raphidiidae. |

At ray arrival in Buitenzorg, at the end of April 1909, the dry season just commenced and this being the less favourable period for insect-collecting, I obtained but few specimens. Later on I perceived that this country is much poorer in regard to these groups than Europe, so that my collections only increased from time to time with some spare examples. Panorpata and Planipennia are very rare here, much rarer than in Europe, and they were found nowhere abundant, so that their economic importance is still more insignificant and their appearance in the tropics proportionally much rarer. |

This remarkable genus, only recorded from Australia and the Old World, was represented by one species in central Africa, Psychopsis zebra Brauer, Ann. Hofmuseum Wien, IV, p. 102 (1889). I had not seen this species before this year, when I purchased, from the London naturalist W. F. H. Rosenberg, a large series of it from Angola, Longa and Luacinga River, November 1899, collected by Penrice. By the yellow colour of the body and the yellowish wings with pale reddish transverse lines on the forewings, it is very easily to be distinguished from an other new species from the Zambesi River, that I purchased for about three years from the same naturalist. It has the body black, the wings somewhat smaller than zebra, but of the same general form, only the... |

Seit Mac Lachlan seine »Considerations on the Neuropterous Genus Chauliodes and its allies” (Annals and Mag. of Nat. Hist. |

Some time ago Dr. R. Gestro at Genoa communicated to me for determination a small collection of Ascalaphidae, made by the late Leonardo Fea in Burmah. As that part of my recently appeared »Monographie der Ascalaphiden” (Catalogue des Collections Sélys, 1908) was then already printed, I publish here the description of the single new and very curious species in this collection. |

Arranging the Neuropterous Insects in the collection of the Leyden Museum I found the type-specimen of the above mentioned species with the names »Raye” and »Calkoen” on the labels of origin. Asking Mr. Ritsema, he told me that, according to verbal communications of his predecessor, the late Dr. S. C. Snellen van Vollenhoven, Messrs. Raye van Breukelerwaard and Calkoen were collectors in the beginning of the 19th century, from whose collections Olivier has described several species. The labels are in Dr. Snellen van Vollenhoven’s handwriting. Ascalaphus maculatus Oliv. This is in the best condition of the three types, though the antennae and left hindwing are wanting. Its label bears the indication »Raye, Gallia meridionalis”. No doubt this is the same... |
