Behavior of chicks subjected to thermal challenge REA
Ferraz,Patricia F. P.; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Alvarenga,Talita A. C.; Reis,Gregory M.; Campos,Alessandro T..
In the first week of a chick life, broilers are very sensitive to different conditions outside their thermoneutral zone. Thus, the goal of this study was to evaluate the behaviors and productive responses of broilers subjected to conditions of thermal comfort or challenge at different intensities (27, 30, 33 and 36ºC) and durations (1, 2, 3 and 4 days starting on the second day of life). In the experiment, ten minutes of images from each hour of each treatment were analyzed to evaluate the key behaviors of the birds. Similar behavior at different dry-bulb air temperatures were identified by using Ward's method of cluster analysis. These behaviors were grouped by dendograms in which the similarity of these data was qualified. Feed intake, water intake and...

USING SOUNDS PRODUCED BY PIGS TO IDENTIFY THERMONEUTRALITY ZONES FOR THERMAL ENVIRONMENT ASSESSMENT RATIOS REA
Amaral,Pedro I. S.; Campos,Alessandro T.; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Cecchin,Daiane; Leite,Evandro M.; Dias e Silva,Nhayandra C..
ABSTRACT Although dry bulb temperature (T) is the environmental variable most commonly used to classify thermal comfort in pigs, environmental assessment ratios provide more accurate information. The objective of this study was to correlate the sound pressure levels (SPL) produced by piglet vocalization with the thermal environment observed during the nursery phase, and subsequently establish thermoneutrality ranges. The experiment was conducted on a pig farm where T, relative humidity (RH), and SPL data were recorded between 9 am-5 pm for 42 days. The association between SPL and T in nursery phase piglets was verified; for thermal comfort to be possible, SPLs were 56.3 to 60.3 dB. The SPLs were subsequently used in predictor equations of ratios, and...

Prediction of free-stall occupancy rate in dairycattle barns through fuzzy sets REA
Campos,Alessandro T.; Castro,Jaqueline de O.; Schiassi,Leonardo; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Pires,Maria de Fátima Á.; Mattioli,Cristiano C..
The goal of this study was to develop a fuzzy model to predict the occupancy rate of free-stalls facilities of dairy cattle, aiding to optimize the design of projects. The following input variables were defined for the development of the fuzzy system: dry bulb temperature (Tdb, °C), wet bulb temperature (Twb, °C) and black globe temperature (Tbg, °C). Based on the input variables, the fuzzy system predicts the occupancy rate (OR, %) of dairy cattle in free-stall barns. For the model validation, data collecting were conducted on the facilities of the Intensive System of Milk Production (SIPL), in the Dairy Cattle National Research Center (CNPGL) of Embrapa. The OR values, estimated by the fuzzy system, presented values of average standard deviation of...

PERTINENCE CURVES IN FUZZY MODELING OF THE PRODUCTIVE RESPONSES OF BROILERS REA
Lourençoni,Dian; Abreu,Paulo G. de; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Campos,Alessandro T.; Yanagi,Silvia de N. M..
ABSTRACT The selection of the type of fuzzy systems pertinence curve allows a better representation of the mathematical model and a smaller simulation error. We aimed to study the effect of pertinence curves in fuzzy modeling of broiler performance, created in different production systems. For the development and testing of fuzzy models, three commercial aviaries (conventional, tunnel with negative pressure, and dark house) were evaluated over one year, totaling six lots per system. For the development of the model, the input variables were enthalpy in each rearing phase (initial: phases 1, 2, and 3; growth: phase 4; and final: phase 5) and the output variables were feed intake (FE), weight gain (GP), feed conversion (FE), and the productive efficiency...

PRODUCTIVE RESPONSES FROM BROILER CHICKENS RAISED IN DIFFERENT COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION SYSTEM - PART II: IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE REA
Lourençoni,Dian; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Yanagi,Silvia de N. M.; Abreu,Paulo G. de; Campos,Alessandro T..
ABSTRACT Broiler chickens are homoeothermic animals, i.e., animals capable of maintaining their body temperature within quite narrow limits; therefore, climate change poses a great challenge to poultry. With this in mind, this research aims to evaluate the performance of broilers submitted to different commercial production systems and exposed to different future scenarios, taking into account the climate change trends. To achieve this objective, we developed and validated a fuzzy model able to predict the performance of a broiler as a function of enthalpy along its life stages. This model was developed and validated in part I of this article based on experimental data collected for one year in three aviaries: conventional, negative pressure, and dark...

Adjust of regression models to estimate the rectal temperature of broilers for the first 14 days of life REA
Ponciano,Patrícia F.; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Lima,Renato R. de; Schiassi,Leonardo; Teixeira,Vitor H..
The broiler rectal temperature (t rectal) is one of the most important physiological responses to classify the animal thermal comfort. Therefore, the aim of this study was to adjust regression models in order to predict the rectal temperature (t rectal) of broiler chickens under different thermal conditions based on age (A) and a meteorological variable (air temperature - t air) or a thermal comfort index (temperature and humidity index -THI or black globe humidity index - BGHI) or a physical quantity enthalpy (H). In addition, through the inversion of these models and the expected t rectal intervals for each age, the comfort limits of t air, THI, BGHI and H for the chicks in the heating phase were determined, aiding in the validation of the equations and...

FUZZY MODEL FOR PREDICTING CLOACAL TEMPERATURE OF BROILER CHICKENS UNDER THERMAL STRESS REA
Abreu,Lucas H. P.; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Campos,Alessandro T.; Lourençoni,Dian; Bahuti,Marcelo.
ABSTRACT Broiler chickens submitted to different intensities and durations of thermal stress are subject to variation in cloacal temperature and, consequently, to a decrease in performance. Given the complexity of these interactions, artificial intelligence is a useful methodology for decision-making. Thus, this study aimed to assess and predict, by means of a fuzzy model, the cloacal temperature of broiler chickens submitted to thermal stress in the second week of life, with varying durations and intensities, in climatized wind tunnels. Mamdani's inference and defuzzification methods by means of the center of gravity were used. One hundred and twenty rules were elaborated. The developed fuzzy model was used to predict the cloacal temperature of broiler...
