Última First record and range extension of the deep-sea urchin Hygrosoma petersii (A. Agassiz, 1880) (Echinodermata, Echinoidea) for the southern Caribbean Boletín de Investigaciones Yepes-Gaurisas,Daniela; Guerrero-Correa,Giovvana M.. ABSTRACT Hygrosoma petersii (A. Agassiz, 1880) is a regular deep-sea urchin from the family Echinothuriidae that has undergone numerous taxonomic changes throughout history. It is characterized by the presence of tridentate pedicellariae with spoon-shaped valves with a serrated edge. The geographic distribution of Hygrosoma petersii is extended to the Colombian Caribbean, as the southernmost record of the Caribbean Sea. Species description and, for the first time, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) photographs of its pedicellariae and sphaeridia are presented, comparing it with its Caribbean congeners. ABSTRACT In order to contribute to the base line of knowledge that is being built of the Gerlache Strait and the adjacent areas, the echinoderms collected during the Scientific Expeditions from Colombia to Antarctica carried out between 2016 and 2019 as part of the project “Biodiversity and oceanographic conditions of the Gerlache Strait, Biogerlache-Antártica” are presented. Eleven stations between 54 and 523 m deep were sampled, using sediment dredgers that captured incidentally some individuals from the mega and macro-epifauna, which were separated, reviewed and identified.
