A MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS OF Boophilus microplus (ACARI: IXODIDAE): NON-PARASITIC PHASE Rev Salud Anim.
de la Vega,R; Díaz,G; da Fonseca,A.H.
Multivariate statistical methods are relatively new tools for data analysis. They have a lot of applications in biological researches: nevertheless, for several reasons, they have not been widely employed in this subject yet. Recently, present authors published a paper applying multivariate statistics on non-parasitic phase of Anocentor nitens. In the present article Boophilus microplus has received a very similar statistic treatment. In this paper, the influence of different incubation conditions was studied in groups of 12-15 individuals in each of the 24 combinations of six temperatures 24, 27, 30, 32, 34 and 36ºC and four relative humidity values, 100, 80, 75.5 and 70% over the cycle variables of B. microplus. According to the results, the best...

A MULTIVATIATE ANALYSIS OF Anocentor nitens (IXODOIDEA: IXODIDAE): NON-PARASITIC PHASE/[title] [title language=es]ANÁLISIS MULTIVARIADO DE Anocentor nitens (IXODOIDEA: IXODIDAE): FASE NO PARASITARIA Rev Salud Anim.
de la Vega,R; Díaz,G.
Multivariate statistical methods are useful tools complementary to classic univariate methods. In biology, they are used in several scenarios where data structure, classification and grouping are necessary. Nevertheless, it seems they have not been employed in the study of non-parasitic phase of ticks or any other arthropod. In this paper, the influence of different incubation conditions was studied in groups of 12-15 individuals in each of the 24 combinations of six temperatures 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, and 34ºC and four relative humidities 100, 80, 75.5 and 70% over the cycle variables of Anocentor nitens looking for establishing the most suitable environmental conditions to increase or decrease ticks performance and to apply these knowledges to zoogeography....

WEIGHT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN Boophilus microplus (IXODOIDEA: IXODIDAE) FROM BRAZIL AND FROM CUBA Rev Salud Anim.
de la Vega,R; Díaz,G; Camejo,A; Fonseca,A.H; Passos Rangel,C.
Weights of engorged females and recently molted adults Boophilus microplus (both females and males) from Cuba and Brazil were compared by means of t-Student tests. It was observed that Brazilian ticks were always significantly heavier than those from Cuba. Some comments about the possible causes, significance of observation and further researches to be performed are offered.

ANATOMY AND HISTOLOGY OF THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM OF Boophilus microplus (ACARI: IXODIDAE) Rev Salud Anim.
de la Vega,R; Díaz,G; Galán,M; Fernández,C.
The knowledge of the anatomy and histology of the female genital system in ticks is very important as a basic tool in all species in relation to morphological sciences and evolution, physiological events like ovulation, sexual behavior, maturation and mating, and also to research the interrelation tick-hemoparasite. The anatomy and histology of the female genital system in Boophilus microplus are scarcely studied. In the present paper, the female genital system of this tick has been considered as a whole and morphological and functional interrelations between different structures and also some other related items has been presented. Unfed and partially engorged females were employed in the study. The quality and resolution of images are remarkable because...

APPLICATION OF TICK SAMPLING ON ACARICIDAL BATH FREQUENCY IN Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (ACARI: IXODIDAE) Rev Salud Anim.
de la Vega,R; Díaz,G; Camejo,A; García,I.
In this paper, a tick sampling method developed by authors was employed with the purpose of saving acaricides and decreasing environmental pollution by the use of acaricidal dip control bathing bovines in relation to a critical number of estimated ticks. Twenty-six Jersey cows in production were sampled. The selected sampling regions were: rear leg, udder, perinea and tail. Samplings were done from 7 to 8 am, and female tick standard size pattern was 6 mm or longer. Every two weeks approximately, samplings and acaricidal baths were done (13 samplings in total). Only cows with 10 or more ticks received acaricidal baths. Results showed that the procedure allows saving 50% of acaricides.
