Autissier, Isabelle; Coum, Andrée; Cuillandre, Jean Pierre; Veron, Gerard; Latrouite, Daniel.
At the end of the seventies, as fishing abundance (based on Catch Per Unit Effort) in crabs and lobster fishery steadily declined, operating expenses increased, and fishing boats changed strategy (changing metiers, covering larger distance to fishing areas, fishing seasons being extended, ...) professionals and scientists aimed to consider reinforcing management measures. To enlighten and support potential related decisions, the Comité Régional des Pêches et Cultures Marines de Bretagne (Regional Committee for fishing and farming in Brittany), together with the ISTPM (Ifremer since 1984), conducted a survey on the exploited populations and gave a review of the involved Breton fleet. This report shows the results of a survey conducted among fishermen,...

Bennet, D; Casey, J; Dare, P; Dawson, W; Flatman, S; Hulme, T; Macer, C; Millner, R; Pickett, G; Vince, M; Lorance, Pascal; Souplet, A; Giret, M; Morin, Jocelyne; Berthou, A; Latrouite, Daniel; Morizur, Yvon; Bossy, S; Ozanne, S.
At present, the majority of fisheries are monitored and regulated in areas which are delineated by arbitrary ICES boundaries which do not necessarily have logical or consistent relationships with biological processes or fish movements. The biogeographical identification of Channel stocks is, therefore, an important step towards developing a rational strategy for the management of their fisheries. This synthesis is based on the wide available knowledge which has not been yet entirely exploited with the purpose of stock identification, for 25 commercially important species in the Channel. In addition, principal technics for stock identification are reviewed likewise environmental characteristics of the Channel, which represent fundamental components in...

Variablility of stable isotope signatures (delta C-13 and delta N-15) in two spider crab populations (Maja brachydactyla) in Western Europe ArchiMer
Bodin, Nathalie; Le Loch, Francois; Hily, Christian; Caisey, Xavier; Latrouite, Daniel; Le Guellec, Anne-marie.
The ontogenic variations of nitrogen and carbon stable isotopic signatures (delta N-15 and delta C-13) were investigated in two spider crab (Maja brachydactyla) populations inhabiting in different biotopes of Western Europe. The Iroise Sea population is localized in Western Brittany and characterized by a seasonal migration occurring on a large bathymetric and habitat gradient while the Seine Bay population, in the Eastern English Channel, remains in a more homogeneous environment during its migration. In the Iroise Sea population, delta C-13 Values increased significantly both with body size and age, revealing a shift towards "benthic-component" prey with spider crab growth. On the contrary, neither body size nor ageing gave rise to a significant trophic...

Aquaculture extensive et repeuplement ArchiMer
Buestel, Dominique; Nicolas, R.; Morize, E.; Rohan, R.; Latrouite, Daniel; Le Borgne, Y.; Cochard, Jean-claude; Flassch, Jean-pierre; Uno, Yutaka; Audouin, Jacques; Legall, J.y.; Jezequel, M.; Lorec, J.; Henocque, Yves; Reveche, C.; Girin, Michel; Laurec, Alain; Herry, P..

Dreves, Luc; Lampert, Luis; Abernot, Chantal; Martin, Jocelyne; Arzel, Pierre; Dumas, Franck; Latrouite, Daniel; Schlaich, Ivan; Woehrling, Daniel.
This synthesis report assesses the current state of the marine hydrobiological knowledge acquired in the surroundings of the Flamanville electronuclear site (north-west of Cotentin), in the framework of the various project and monitoring programs in the pelagic, benthic and halieutic domains carried out on this site since 1976. Each domain is divided, as much as necessary, into different study areas such as hydrobiology, phytoplankton, microbiology, crustacean larvae or macrophyte algae. For each area, a series of parameters, considered as representative of the evolution of this area, is studied. In this way, for the hydrological area, the sea water temperature and salinity, the mineral nutriment concentrations, the holagen compounds and the boron are...

Dupouy, Hervé; De Kergariou, Gabriel; Latrouite, Daniel.

Review of the biology, ecology and fisheries of Palinurus spp. species of European waters: Palinurus elephas (Fabricius, 1787) and Palinurus mauritanicus (Gruvel, 1911) ArchiMer
Gõni, R; Latrouite, Daniel.
Palinurus elephas and Palinurus mauritanicus are the only species of the family Palinuridae that occur in the Northeast Atlantic and Mediterranean. Of the two, Palinurus elephas is the most abundant and accessible and has traditionally been the preferred target of lobster fisheries throughout its range. Palinurus mauritanicus has a deeper distribution and has been an important target of fisheries mainly in the Central Eastern Atlantic. The high unit value and the relative scarcity of these species have been important obstacles to research and knowledge of their biology, ecology and fisheries is limited. Nevertheless, over time a considerable number of studies has been conducted, though most of these are contained in university theses or in publications of...

Latrouite, Daniel.
Due to the unsuitability of the north brittany coastal fishing grounds for trawling, the fishing activity of the harbours of this coast has been oriented towards the catch of invertebrates and peculiarly the large crustaceans. After, in the beginning of the XIX century, looking for lobster and spiny lobster, fishing has been, since the seventies, centered on the catch of the edible crab (Cancer Pagurus) and of the spider crab (Maia squinado). The first part of this document introduces the context of the exploitation and the concerned fleets. The second part treats of the biological parameters of the edible crab: growth, reproduction, migration and pathologies. The third part, devoted to the exploitation and the monitoring of the edible crab stock, is an...

Latrouite, Daniel; Claude, Serge.

Latrouite, Daniel; Claude, Serge.
First rearing attempts with the european clams Ruditapes decussatus, the pacific clams Ruditapes philippinarum and the clam Mercenaria mercenaria have been realized by placing the bood into grating cages above the ground. This technic permits a good survival during the so-called "pre-growth" stage. However, if rearing of juveniles is persued beyond 2 centimeters, growth is strongly delayed and mortality increases due to valve distortion and shell infection by parasitic worms.
