Bacterial blight (BB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), is one of the most serious diseases of rice in all major rice-growing areas of Thailand. The most effective approach to control BB is the use of resistant varieties which is economically feasible, an environmental-friendly control method and easy for farmers to handle. However, the selection pressure from the usage of resistant cultivars may result in mutation of the pathogen population to overcome the resistance genes. A feasible method to solve this problem is by pyramiding multiple resistance genes, which are board spectrum, into susceptible rice varieties.
