Rice gall midge (GM) is an important insect pest in the upper north of Thailand i.e. Tak, Phrae, Lampang, Nan, Phayao, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces. Severe infestations generally occur during September to October. Prior to this study, only MN62M and RD4, the two glutinous rice varieties were recommended as resistant ones. Hence, the non-glutinous type with resistance to GM is in urgent need. The research has been conducted for 12 years during 2001 - 2012. The cross was made between PRE92039-3-1-2-1 and SPT82022-PRE-26-3-2-GM-6. Populations were selected continuously from F2 to F6 after which study and evaluation were carried out in successive steps from observational nursery, intra-station yield trial, inter-station yield trial and... |

Improvement of non restorer lines (B-line) of sweet sorghum was carried out at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center, Pakchong district, Nakhonratchasima province during 2005-2009 for 10 seasons, aimed to improve their yield components by backcrossing method for 3 generations and followed by 4 generations of pedigree selection. For pedigree selection procedure, line selection was compared to family selection method. In late rainy season 2009, it was found that 40 non restorer lines of sweet sorghum were selected from the line selection method. They had 54-62 days to flowering, 136-298 cm of plant height, 12-14 leaves per plant, 18-30 cm of panicle length, 10.1-15.8 percent brix of sweetness, 17-22 mm of stem diameter, 2.0-3.0 leaf diseases score,... |

Peanut variety Khon Kaen 84-7 was selected from a cross between var. China no.1 (female parent) with erect plan type, narrow branching, medium seed size, pink seed color and high pod yield and var. EC36892 (male parent) with resistance to insect pests, large seed size and pink seed color. Hybridization was carried out in 1993, the F1 seeds were grown to produce F2s in 1994, and the F2-F5 progenies were selected during 1995-1996. Preliminary yield trials on selected lines were conducted during 1998-1999 at Khon Kaen Field Crops Research Center (KKFCRC). Yield and adaptability were evaluated via standard yield trial, regional yield trial and farm trial during 2000-2009 at KKFCRC, Kalasin Agricultural Research and Development Center (KARDC), Chinat FCRC,... |
