Total of 130 rice accessions from IRRI were tested for resistance to rice ragged stunt virus (RRSV) and rice grassy stunt virus (RGSV). The viruses were transmitted by brown planthopper (BPH) vector. Virus-carrying BPH was transferred to healthy seedlings in mylar cakes. Disease symptom was observed and scored at 30 days after inoculation. Viral infection was also detected by ELISA test. Visual score showed RRSV and RGSV infection ranged from 5.00-78.57% and 7.14-100%, respectively. The results correspond to that of ELISA test, but the ELISA test gave higher percentage of infection. Based on percentage of infection and disease index, 12 accessions were identified as resistance to RRSV; 37 accessions as moderately resistance; 25 accessions as tolerance. No... |
