Growth and production of volatile compounds of yarrow (Achillea millefolium L.) under different irrigation depths Anais da ABC (AABC)

Abstract Yarrow (Achillea millefolium L., Asteraceae) is an important medicinal plant used worldwide for its medicinal properties such as the analgesic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ones. The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth and production of photosynthetic pigments and of volatile constituents of Achillea millefolium L. under different irrigation depths. The treatments were the application of 55, 110, 220, 440 and 880 mm of water for a period of 110 days. Data were submitted to polynomial regression analysis at 5% probability, while the volatile constituents were analyzed by standard deviation. Strategies Towards the Synthesis of N2-Substituted 1,2,3-Triazoles Anais da ABC (AABC)

Abstract The chemistry of 1,2,3-triazoles gained much attention since the discovery of the copper catalyzed Alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction which delivers exclusively the 1,4-regioisomer in high yields. On the other hand there is still no universal methodology capable of delivering the N2 substituted regioisomer. The unique properties of these N2-substituted 1,2,3-triazoles have stimulated synthetic efforts on the developments of methodologies capable of delivering it in high yield and selectivity. These efforts are the subject of the presented review.

Abstract: Four novel Cr (III), Co (II) and Ni (II) complexes with 2-thiazoline-2-tiol derivative ligands were synthesized and characterized using elemental, physiochemical, and spectroscopy analytical methods. The results showed the formation of ligands coordinated by sulfur atoms of the C = S bond to the L1 ligand and by the sulfur atom of the C-S bond and/or nitrogen of the intra C-ring bond of the L2 ligand. The activity of the complexes against Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria and yeasts of clinical importance was evaluated by broth microdilution method. Colon cancer and swimming exercise: effect on wistar rat testes BABT

This study was undertaken to determine whether colon cancer (CC) and chronic swimming exercise alter rat testis. Eleven weeks old rats were distributed into control group (n=6) and the groups that were induced to develop CC by dimethylhydrazine injections (nEG, EG0, EG2 and EG4; n=10 each group). In the group nEG, the rats did not swim, whereas groups EG0, EG2 and EG4, underwent a swimming program with distinct loads (0, 2 and 4% of body mass, respectively) for 35 weeks. The morphometry, stereology and cell counts showed damage caused by the CC on the germ epithelium. These results were noteworthy since this was the first report to associate the CC with testicular damage. Swimming exercise had no significant role in reducing, or increasing the CC effects...

Biotechnological potential of Clostridium butyricum bacteria BJM

In response to demand from industry for microorganisms with auspicious biotechnological potential, a worldwide interest has developed in bacteria and fungi isolation. Microorganisms of interesting metabolic properties include non-pathogenic bacteria of the genus Clostridium, particularly C. acetobutylicum, C. butyricum and C. pasteurianum. A well-known property of C. butyricum is their ability to produce butyric acid, as well as effectively convert glycerol to 1,3-propanediol (38.2 g/L). We synthesized a series of compounds bearing pharmacologically important 1,3,4-oxadiazole and piperidine moieties. Spectral data analysis by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, IR and EI-MS was used to elucidate the structures of the synthesized molecules. Docking studies explained the different types of interaction of the compounds with amino acids, while bovine serum albumin (BSA) binding interactions showed their pharmacological effectiveness. Antibacterial screening of these compounds demonstrated moderate to strong activity against Salmonella typhi and Bacillus subtilis but only weak to moderate activity against the other three bacterial strains tested. Nesta pesquisa, objetivou-se a obtenção e caracterização do óleo essencial de folhas da goiabeira Psidium guajava cv. Pedro Sato, e seus possíveis efeitos no comportamento da lagarta-do-cartucho do milho Spodoptera frugiperda. O óleo essencial foi obtido pela técnica "arraste a vapor d'água", utilizando-se de um aparelho de Clevenger modificado e submetido, posteriormente, à análise por cromatografia gasosa acoplada a um espectrômetro de massas CG-EM, a fim de investigar sua composição. Para a avaliação dos efeitos do óleo essencial no comportamento das lagartas de 1º ínstar foram testados quatro tratamentos, dois com o óleo essencial na concentração de 0,01% e 0,001%, diluídos em etanol/água

En el presente trabajo se calculó la emisión de cinco compuestos volátiles de frutos y botones florales de Capsicum annuum (L.), y se midió la tasa de liberación de compuestos sintéticos similares en septos de caucho mediante Aireación Dinámica y analizados por cromatografía de gases. The gene dhaT from Klebsiella pneumoniae encodes 1,3-propanediol oxidoreductase (PDOR). Thermally responsive elastin-like polypeptides (ELPs) was used as a fusion tag to purify the proteins (PDOR). The ELP gene was attached to dhaT and ligated into the pET-22b vector. Different NaCl concentrations were employed to decrease the transition temperature (Tt) which was diminished as salt concentration increased. The batch fermentation of 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PD) by Klebsiella pneumoniae SU6 at different crude glycerol concentration (40-100 g l-1), pH (6.5-7.5) and temperature (31-40ºC) combined with two-phase pH-controlled strategy was investigated. The gene dhaT from Klebsiella pneumoniae encoding 1,3-propanediol oxidoreductase (PDOR) was de novo synthesized by splicing overlap extension polymerase chain reaction (SOE-PCR) primarily according to Escherichia coli’s codon usage, as well as mRNA secondary structure. After optimization, Codon Adaptation Index (CAI) value was improved from 0.75 to 0.83, meanwhile energy of mRNA secondary structure was increased from -400.1 to -86.8 kcal/mol.
