Revision of the Oriental genus Matapa moore (Lepidoptera, Hesperiidae) with discussion of its phylogeny and geographic History Naturalis
Jong, R. de.
A revision is given of the Oriental genus Matapa Moore. Two species, M. intermedia and M. deprivata, and one subspecies, M. intermedia nigrita, are described as new. A key to the nine species known at present is provided. Figures are given of male and female genitalia, and of forewings of males. The phylogeny of the genus and its geographic history are discussed. It is shown that three monophyletic groups can be distinguished, which all originated in mainland Southeast Asia. The occurrence of one species in India is the result of a geologically speaking recent invasion. There are indications of a double colonization of Celebes from the Philippines.

De nachtpauwoog Saturnia pavonia in Zuid-Nederland: verspreiding, vliegtijd en voedselkeuze (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). Naturalis
Post, F.A.H.E..
The emperor moth Saturnia pavonia in the southern part of the Netherlands: distribution, phenology and food (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) Saturnia pavonia is a large and beautiful moth. It was thought that the species was becoming rare in the Netherlands. In the period 1986-2006 the species was surveyed in the province of Noord-Brabant and the northern and middle part of the province of Limburg. It was shown that the emperor moth was present in 40% of the 250 investigated 5 km squares, especially on heath land and in forests. It became clear that the species, however conspicuous in appearance, has a largely hidden lifestyle. Although the males can be seen flying over heath land, most are hidden in the vegetation. Furthermore the males fly only in the...

Marine fauna of hard substrata of the Cleaver bank and Dogger bank Naturalis
Schrieken, N.; Gittenberger, A.; Coolen, J.W.P.; Lengkeek, W..
As most of the sea bottom in the Dutch part of the North Sea consists of sand, marine fauna that live in association with hard substrates are rarely monitored. We report here on the results of a species inventory in June 2011 done by scuba-diving while focusing on a wreck on the Dogger Bank and on rocky bottoms on the Cleaver Bank. This resulted in various new records of species for the Dutch part of the North Sea. This result appeared for a large part linked to the added value of monitoring with scuba-divers. It is therefore concluded that scuba-divers should be used in addition to the more traditional monitoring methods in which dredges and grabs are used, if one aims at getting an accurate view of the biodiversity present in marine regions like the...

Otiorhynchus apenninus, een nieuwe snuitkever voor Nederland (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) Naturalis
Heijerman, T.; Moraal, L.; Burgers, J.; Goffau, L. de.
Otiorhynchus apenninus, a new weevil for the Netherlands (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) Otiorhynchus apenninus (= O. salicicola) is reported for the first time from the Netherlands. The species was collected in a garden at Hoofddorp (Noord-Holland), Rijswijk (Zuid-Holland) and in and around a garden at Heemstede (Noord-Holland). The species appeared to be present at the locality at Heemstede for several successive years, despite an attempt to eradicate it. We therefore conclude that O. apenninus must be considered as established in the Netherlands. Some data are presented on the European distribution and host plants of the species. Illustrations of the male and female genitalia are provided.

Records and descriptions of Microlepidoptera (8) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
In continuation of my first revisional paper on the subfamily Olethreutinae dealing with the Lobesia complex (1954) I now present a revision of the genus Bactra Stephens. Chiefly the species from the Malayan region are treated, but also references to some species from other regions are made, as far as these species were available for study. I use this opportunity also to make some amendments to my paper on Meyrick types in the British Museum (1950). Material from New Guinea and of the Sumba Expedition 1948 will be treated in other papers. The material that served for this revision comprises chiefly the collection of the Leiden Museum (indicated below with "L.M."). A small, but valuable addition form materials from museums in the United States. I am...

A new species of Thaumamannia from Surinam (Heteroptera, Tingidae, Vianaidinae) Naturalis
Doesburg, P.H. van.
During soil fauna investigations performed in 1959 by Dr. J. van der Drift (see his study, 1963), three specimens were collected of a small coleopteroid heteropteron, representing a new species belonging to the genus Thaumamannia Drake & Davis, 1960. Up till now, only one other species in this genus was known, viz., T. manni, collected in an ants' nest by Mr. W. H. Mann in Bolivia. The other three known species in the subfamily Vianaidinae1) belong to the genus Anommatocoris China, 1945, and are also found with ants (Drake & Ruhoff, 1965). The new species described here is closely related to the Bolivian species, and in all likelihood is also myrmecophilous. It is the first record of a vianaidine tingid for Surinam and for the Guyana's. The...

Notes on oriental Vespinae, including some species from China and Japan (Hymenoptera, Vespidae) Naturalis
Vecht, J. van der.
Since the publication of my revision of the Vespinae of the Indo-Malayan and Papuan areas (1957), I have had the opportunity to study a considerable amount of additional material of this subfamily. Part of this material originated from the areas treated in my previous paper, and in so far as the following notes refer to these specimens, they may be regarded as a first supplement to that revision. The present paper, however, also contains some information on the Vespinae occurring in India, China, and Japan. At first I had hoped to round off my studies of the Vespinae by preparing a more or less complete revision of the Vespa species of the Asiatic continent, but so far it has proved impossible to accumulate sufficient material for this purpose. The males...

Caenis Demoulini, a new Ephemeropteron from Thailand Naturalis
Bruggen, A.C. van.
During a short stay at Bangkok on December 3rd, 1953, Professor H. Boschma observed that enormous quantities of minute insects were attracted by lamplight in the hotel of the Royal Dutch Airlines (K.L.M.) "Plaswijk" at the airport Laksi. From the enormous accumulations of these insects around the lamps he collected a sample which he entrusted to me for examination. This sample proved to consist almost entirely of a new species of mayfly which is described in the present paper. Caenis demoulini nov. spec. Female imago. Head and thorax uniformly yellowish brown. Eyes purple-black, prominent. Antennae grey-brown ; median ocellus prominent, colour light brown with a darker edge. Abdomen pale yellowish brown, at the dorsal surface with light browngrey markings,...
