Hesionura augeneri Goniadella Bobretzkii, and Parapodrilus psammophilus (Annelida, Polychaeta) : new to the Netherlands Naturalis
Wolff, W.J.; Stegenga, H..
INTRODUCTION AND METHODS During an investigation of distribution and ecology of the Archiannelida of the estuarine area of the rivers Rhine, Meuse and Scheldt in the southwestern part of The Netherlands, three species of polychaetes new to the Dutch fauna were found. Because these species have not been reported very frequently from other localities, the finds are described in some detail. The first two species were found in samples taken with a o.i m2 Van Veengrab; the last one originated from a core sample taken in the beach. After collecting the samples have been treated in the way described by Boaden (1963). RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Hesionura augeneri (Friedrich, 1937) (fig. 2) This species was found at two localities in the coastal water (fig. 1) at...

On a remarkable polynoid-worm Weberia pustulata nov. gen. nov. spec. from the Malayan Abyss Naturalis
Horst, R..
At the Stations 45 and 314, north off Soembawa, in a depth of 694 and 794 m, the Siboga-expedition dredged three specimens of Polynoïnae that cannot be identified with any species, hitherto described. Unfortunately they are somewhat incomplete, for the elytra as well as most of the cirri are absent. One of the specimens, a female containing ripe eggs, measures nearly 20 mm. in length and has about 40 segments. The head is rounded, broader as long, prolonged anteriorly into the two stout basal joints of the lateral antennae, that are nearly as long as the head, whereas their distal part is only a trifle longer; the species therefore belongs to the group of Lepidonotidae 1). From the middle of the head a large basal joint of the tentacle arises, but its...

Een Heteronereis-vorm van Nereis succinea Leuck Naturalis
Horst, R..

Three species of Microphthalmus (Polychaeta) new to The Netherlands Naturalis
Wolff, W.J..
INTRODUCTION The excellent monograph by Westheide (1967) of the hesionid genera Hesionides and Microphthalmus provided the means to study these genera in The Netherlands. Until now no species belonging to either of these genera have been recorded from this country. Nevertheless, several species of Microphthalmus were found during our ecological studies on the polychaetes of the estuarine area of the rivers Rhine, Meuse, and Scheldt. One of these species, M. fragilis Bobretzky, was so far only known from the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. In the present paper three species are recorded and described. The positions of the localities where these species were found are shown on the map (fig. 1). Ecological data will be published later. Acknowledgements are...

Janua (Dexiospira) Brasilliensis (Grube) (Polychaeta: Spirorbidae) : a new record from the South-West Netherlands Naturalis
Critchley, A.T.; Thorp, C.H..
A new record in the distribution of the immigrant spirorbid Janua (Dexiospira) brasiliensis is reported from Dutch waters. This is only the second European locality for the serpulid worm, otherwise known from warmer latitudes. J. (D.) brasiliensis (Grube) was found associated with the marine angiosperm Zostera marina L. and the exotic brown alga Sargassum muticum (Yendo) Fensholt, within the protected environment of a saline canal in the south-west Netherlands.

Remarks on the subclass Udonellida (Monogenea), with description of a new species Naturalis
Land, J. van der.
INTRODUCTION Flatworms living as commensals on parasitic copepods from marine fishes were known already as- early as 1835, when Johnston described Udonella caligorum from Caligus spec., a parasite of Hippoglossus hippoglossus (L.). Since then a number of similar genera and species have been described, but none of these is clearly different from Udonella caligorum, as far as can be judged from the descriptions. Therefore only one valid species is recognized by most modern authors (Price, 1938; Sproston, 1946; Ivanov, 1952b). Calinella ophiodontis Kay, 1945, a species not listed by these authors, probably is another synonym to be added to the long list, but Kay's material should be re-examined before a final decision can be made. In Yamaguti's compilation...

Gastrolecithus planus (Linton) (Cestoda, Tetraphyllidea) parasitizing Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus) (Elasmobranchii) from the North Sea Naturalis
Land, J. van der.
INTRODUCTION In 1889 Van Beneden described a new tetraphyllid cestode, Dinobothrium septaria, for which he erected a new genus. It was peculiar in having a rather small body with a very large scolex, the largest of all tapeworm holdfasts. Since then a small number of other species of Dinobothrium have been described (for two of them new genera were proposed, viz. Gastrolecithus Yamaguti, 1952 and Reesium Euzet, 1955). They have only been found in large sharks, both in preying and in plankton feeding species. Mola (1907) was the first investigator who found such a tapeworm in the Basking Shark, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus). Euzet (1955) has tried to elucidate the remarkable and confused history of these animals. He recognized three genera and only three...

Twee sedentaire Polychaeten uit het brakke water van Nederland Naturalis
Horst, R..
Alkmaria romijni n. g. n. sp. Een Terebellide.

On a remarquable fresh-water Polychaete "Nereis nouhuysi" from the East-Indies Naturalis
Horst, R..
In the year 1905 Mr. J. W. van Nouhuys presented to our Museum some Nereis-specimens, collected in the Miha at the South-coast of the isle of Taliaboe, at a distance of two hours from the mouth of the river, that moreover was shut off by a bank of gravel 1). There are eleven specimens, ten females and one male, all mature and in the Heteronereisform. They are characteristically marked; in the median body-region each segment shows on it dorsal side a transverse, black band, narrow in the piddle and growing broader laterally, on the base of the parapodia. Two black spots occur on the dorsal side of each parapodium, whereas the dorsal ligule is also black coloured. Ventrally the segments show a similar marking; however on the base of the parapodium there...

Searching for cryptic species in Erpobdella octoculata (L.) (Hirudinea: Clitellata): discordance between the results of genetic analysis and cross-breeding experiments Naturalis
Koperski, P.; Milanowski, R.; Krzyk, A..
The main aim of this study was to reveal reproduction barriers and potentially cryptic radiation within the very common and morphologically variable leech species - Erpobdella octoculata (L., 1758). The differences in reproductive success of the morphological forms were compared experimentally. The data based on the results of field sampling and analysis of ITS and COI sequences is also presented. The results of the analysis of DNA sequences clearly show lack of reproduction barriers between the analysed morphological forms. Subtle differences in DNA sequences between individuals, found with the use of the arbitrary primers method, seem to be related mainly to geographical distance between sub-populations. On the basis of these results, E. octoculata...

On three remarkable Annelida Polychaeta Naturalis
Horst, R..
Paralacydonia weberi n. sp. Among some Glyceridae, dredged by the Siboga-expedition at Stat. 52, south off Flores at a depth of 959 M., I met with five specimens of a Polychaet, which must be ranged among the genus Paralacydonia. This rare genus was based by Fauvel in 1913 1) on three specimens of a worm (Paralacydonia paradoxa) that holds an intermediary place between the Phyllodocidae and Nephthyidae and was found in the Mediterranean sea, south of Monaco, at a depth of about 50 M. The prostomium is conical and provided at its distal end with four bi-annular antennae; the buccal segment is without appendages. The first setigerous segment bears uniramous parapodia, whereas the following parapodia are biramous; the two lobes are separated from each other...

Three New Nereis-species from the Dutch East-Indies Naturalis
Horst, R..
Nereis buitendijki n. sp. Malacca-strait. P. Buitendijk, 1910. Amidst the Plankton of Malacca-strait Mr. P. Buitendijk met with a small Nereis-specimen, characterized by the presence of a digitiform appendage on the dorsum of the parapodia in the posterior body-region. The worm measures about 14 mm. in length. The head is longer than broad, trapezoidal, provided with large, broad palps and two short antennae, measuring about a third of the length of the head. The tentacular cirri are rather short, the longest of them reaching about to the 6th segment. The armature of the proboscis consists of: I = 2 paragnaths, one behind the other. II = an oblique, distichous group of 10 paragnaths. IV = a transverse, tristichous group of 10 to 12 paragnaths. III = 3...
